Nokia 5800 vs iphone

Contract is coming to an end with O2 - pity no more retentions deals though. I am considering either a Nokia 5800 or an iphone.

Now I know there is a big difference in price but other than that what is to choose between the phones?

While the 5800 is a nice phone the interface on the iphone is very slick (and I'm not an iPhone/Apple fan as a rule).

But you need to go and try both and see what you think.

The only thing I thinks a bit odd on the iphone (and the itouch) is no multitasking... I've a windows mobile pda running 03 and on that I can start the music player, drop back to the menu and fire up an ebook reader and use both at the same time, with the Apple op system you can only do one thing at a time... seems a waste ??

I would say 5800 is a gadgety phone, whereas iphone is a great gadget that is also a phone. IMO the latter justifies the price difference if you can afford it

I am not a fan of the iphone at all, not for any particular reason, I just can't get on with it. I like the 5800 very much, it does everything I need and is easy to operate.

I suppose that is the key question - what do you need/ want it for?
    Gone ... or have I?

Main use would be phone, texts and internet use.

Some of the apps on the iphone look useful but perhaps there are similar on the 5800?

It has to be able to connect to my car's bluetooth - I know the iphone does as my son tried his on it and it downloads the phone book. I also have an ipod connector in the car so it allows music to be played from the iphone - pity it doesn't charge it though. I don't know if the 5800 will as on the Seat forum some say it works and others say it doesn't so confusing.

I liked the idea of the 5800 handwriting recognition for texts. It als seems a bit smaller than the iphone.

apparently the web browser on the iphone is second to none....but to be honest you can get opera/skyfire for the 5800 which are very good imho

Better games, bigger screen, loads more apps, better Internet browsing, it does connect to car Bluetooth coz it does to mine, I'm actually writing this now on the iPhone! Yes the battery is poor but I had to charge the 5800 everyday too! Also slimmer in your hand, hth in your decision.
