I was thinking of doing snowman soup to go with the vouchers for friends' kids/nieces and nephews, but have been browsing through old MSE forum posts and quite like the idea of Pots of Gold... Would it be naff to put a gift voucher into them instead of lottery tickets? They are for children so don't want to encourage gambling lol, but it would be nice to have a way of jazzing up boring gift vouchers (not that they think vouchers are boring, that is what they want, its just that I find them boring to give!)

helyg - I did pots of gold for my teenage grandchildren last year and put a scratch card in each one (they'd been given some money hidden away in another pressie anyway) -gift voucher is a good idea:T

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions I am definately going to going to do a fruit bowl for 1 nan and then a nut bowl for the other 1 (including nut cracker, lol)

This site is great - who needs to pay for personal shoppers when then is such a wealth of knowledge and expertise on here... Now if I could only get OH on here and someone could drop hints on the necklace that I want ;)

Nan and Grandad - They go away in their caravan a lot, like The National Trust, Stokegal

You can use your clubcard vouhers to get a years membership to English Heritage, not National Trust I know but quite similar.

It gets you into all the places for free so handy if they like travelling around.. I got a joint one for my mum and dad last year and it cost me in the region of £20 in clubcard vouchers, think its nearer £80 if you were to actually "buy" it.

Thanks Pipsmum but (and this is so very un-MSE) I don't have a Tesco Clubcard!!! My mum works at Tesco so anything substantial I make her buy so I get her staff discount off with her clubcard and i find it really expensive to do my weekly food shop there

stokegal, for your mum could you make a cocktail/night on the town hamper? With say a cocktail shaker, some fancy martini glasses, some cocktail stirrers, a few mini bottles of booze and a book of cocktail recipes. And maybe some pretty jewellery or a handbag or something to take with her when she goes out, or a CD for when she's getting ready. She could invite her friends round to her house for some cocktails before hitting the clubs :)

asbestos - a pot of gold can be really whatever you want it to be.
Last year some of mine were empty gravy granule tube covered with paper with images of gold coins on and filled with the gold covered chocolate coins you get at christmas. Some I did using empty coffee jars and filling with either the choccy coins or ferrero rocher chocs and a gold ribbon round the top with a label attached.
If you type 'pots of gold' in the search box there were loads of variations.
    Good luck:j

Btw love the name Amelia!! I am being nosy here but does she have a partner?? does she already have kids??

Yes she has a partner of 5 years, kids were discussed but they had no plans to have one for a few years yet.

I still cant believe she had no idea - her sister pops babies out like their going out of fashion and everyone else around her has had a few kids each so she is fully aware of what being pregnant involves.

Luckilly as her sister had a baby 10 weeks ago there is plenty of newborn stuff going spare, so that will do her until they can get to the shops.

I wish i didnt find out till a few weeks before i was due - t would save me a whole load of hassle and worry.
