I was in Sainsbury's today and they had a lot of HSM, Bratz, In the night garden, Dora the explorer and arts n craft items ranging from 25p to £3.00. I bought my DD two huge carrier bags full of stuff for only £12, well worth a look in your local store!

last year i got my wicker baskets with fabric liners from dunelm mill.

for those of you who have people who are ungreatful for the handmade gifts they recieve i have found this ribbon, There are 4 different ones to choose from including one that says ''recycled gift''

I have just ordered 1 asits in keeping with my humour thene for gifts with another couple of cheap gifts and gone through quidco as you get 10% cashback plus £5 off £15 spend which is a quidco exclusive code. Delivery is £3.95 but i could justify that as the ribbon and bows are unusual plus you save that by using the quidco code.

When i was a kid my parents never had much money and my dad worked 2 jobs every december so that we got something. we used to get bits of clothes, hats scarves gloves, large bar of chocolate, book, jigsaw maybe a game etc. nothing expensive but we all had a few pressies each. i was a late sixties/seventies kid.

What did evryone on here used to get for xmas as a child?

I used to bug my mam to get me loads of Barbie and My Little Pony stuff out of the Argos catalogue, I'd get some and then some other bits and pieces. I feel really bad now as I know my parents were totally skint when we were kids and Barbie stuff is expensive. It's weird because the best present I ever got was this big Sylvanian families house with loads of furniture and characters which was a hand me down from my friend.

I've been getting money for my birthday and Christmasses for the past few years, I'd absolutely no way throw a tantrum at being given £100, that's loads of money! I'd normally be chuffed to bits when my parents gave me £50 and some presents to open on the day as it seems like a lot of money to me. I don't think I know a single person now who gets £500 for their Christmas box, much less when they were 16, I think he's just trying it on. I'd give him a tenner and tell him it'll teach him not to be so ungrateful next time!

  • we used to get loads at xmas when we were young my parents are divorced and i think my mum tried to compensate.
my dad used to buy us one presnt but it was a main present upto the value of £100 usually, ie bikes, tvs, hi-fis etc
my mum spent a small fortune on the 3 of us and got us everything that was the latest craze, but tbh we each had favourite things and barely touched most of it. she had a clubman whom she got a loan off each xmas and spent all year paying it off, she was also involved in many draws. she only got a present off my grandparents when we were young and she chose a food hamper every year so she wouldnt have to worry about food and she had more money to spend on us.
whilst i apprieciate all she gave me, i wouldnt ever get into the debt she did. we didnt ever get anything throughout the year as she was so skint. every pay day she would buy a pack of breakaways biscuits and share them out and tbh we so looked forward to payday. we would have been happy if we woke on xmas day with just a kitkat i think!
my siblings and i say now that the best thing about xmas was the day the hamper was delivered as it was the only time of the year when we had pickled onions in the cupboard!

now she is married and the cost of xmas is shared with my stepdad and she has calmed down on the spending. with stepsiblings there is now 5 of us aged between 24 and 32 and we each get £100 given/spent on us and the grandkids (5 of them) get £50 each.
my dad is out of work now and doesnt buy me, my older brother or sister anything just my little brother whos 10 and teh 5 grandkids get £20 each spent on them.

I just had a look at my list and I'm quite happy to say that I'm getting there :)

All I need to get now is....

Choc coins, Werthers and scratchcards for pots of gold

Warcraft T-shirt (know which one, just waiting til I have enough money)
2 Warcraft books for 1p each! Waiting til OH goes to the toilet or something so I can sneakily check the bookcase to see which ones he already has :rotfl:
    Some Yoshi slippers from eBay
The new Pratchett book (using voucher from WHsmiths )

Stuff for brother, mam and dad, and dad's Become a Lord present. Don't know what they want yet though, and I'm not allowed to ask as it's not close enough to Christmas :o They can be my December shopping!

Then I need to finish making my half eaten gingerbread men and sock monkeys for friends, Hama bead stuff, and finish OHs felt totem.

Then everything else is all foodie stuff! Some needs to be started now (chutney, chilli oil) but most of it is to make a few days before like cookies and fudge so don't need to worry about it yet.
