  • Just wondered if anyone had seen choccy coins yet?

Did get some in Hobbycraft, but i'm sure somewhere will have them on offer/cheaper.

Also any sighting of candy canes?

Have looked in my local poundland, 99p shop and Wilkinsons (hemel)

    Me again!

I had an email from "Do Craft," they have a fantastic sale. Lots of Christmas bits there. Rubber stamps from 39p, stick on bits for cards/gift tags, papers...just loads. And I have just bought loads too. For those who are planning to handmake things or just like buying more craft things you don't really need www.docrafts.co.uk Then follow the Sale sign at the top of the page.

  • Im not a crafter so has anyone seen a site/shop that's selling cheap xmas cards, wrapping, etc yet?

Had barney with OH... I asked for half of the cost of niece's xmas prezzy and he said its September, not Xmas yet so no you can't. I explained that he knew I was like this (Xmas early every year) and wouldn't he prefer little bills as he went along rather than 1 big bill at Xmas? To put it politely, he told me to take it back because he wasn't doing it this early (he's not, I am!) and stormed out. :-( With being a temp, I'm on random weekly pay and haven't got as big a money buffer as I used to have. Am I being unreasonable?

No you are not being unreasonable - this is how I think too and what I would prefer rather than fork out everything out of Nov/Dec pay. You are right that it is much better to spread the cost out and look for bargains in the summer at reduced prices.

Why do some men just not get this and expect us to fork out for everything and then only get a small % back from them.

Hope you sort it out cheesy*

  • I'm going to get bits then nearer Christmas bill my husband! He's not interested in Xmas right now so when I come forth with all these lovely crafty presents that will save him hours of shopping I'll probably just get a little thanks, and thats it! Men!! And if he doesn't give me the money for them then he's for it!

Anyone know where you can get nice big gift boxes to make into hampers? I was thinking like hat boxes but can't afford much. I'm going to do a 'girly night in' box for them (12 & 13) but can't think of much beyond pyjamas, fluffy socks, maybe sweets and a little manicure set. Any age-appropriate ideas?

Save all your receipts and give them to him at the start of December along with a list of gifts, prices and budget for the money he needs to give you for whatever's left. Make sure you add something for yourself for your trouble :)

OMG, glad hubby just humours me. All comes out of the joint account anyway.
Mind you, he only knows what we've bought for everyone (inc. DS1&2, DD) on Christmas Day when they open them...

rosie - I get shoe boxes from our local shoe shop and cover them with pretty paper. Boxes are free so it doesn't cost much at all, plus some have to be posted so it makes it a bit easier for that.

Been round the charity shops this morning -
    apron for foster daughter,
glove puppet with sooty and sweep on the fingers for grandson
and wall or door hanger with pockets (all with pictures) for him to put his smaller toys
Candle like a ladybird.............my friend will love it

Topped up with more ribbon and paper to make some little gift bags............was all set to do that tomorrow but now the double glazing chaps are coming:rolleyes:
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

Cheesy, you're not being unreasonable at all, just make sure you write everything down what you spend including cards, wrapping etc. When he's hit with a massive bill at the last minute he'll understand why you try to spread the cost throughout the year. This way you'll be able to buy lots of nice food and drink in December, instead of scrimping and worrying about being skint because you had to buy all of your presents out of one pay check. I don't see how anyone could not see the sense in starting early, they just get their backs up because of the word Christmas I think

  • I'm just in the process of printing out the christmas organiser and have been on here all day getting my head in a whirl with ideas :rotfl:
I'm also making a list of things I need to make gifts that I will print out and give a copy to hubs to keep in his wallet so he too can be on the lookout for bargains!
