OS Daily Thread - Friday 3rd July

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Friday 3rd July. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!

Morning OS chums!

Meanmarie - you are so right, cool, non sticky hugs are the way to go in this weather!
Grandmasam - You are more than welcome!
bargainbird - Have you tried the Police Community Support Officer? (PCSOs) Your local police station can put you in contact with them. They are not actual policemen I don't think but for things like that, they could come and see you and maybe have a quiet word with them. I am sure they could help. And all the usual things like keeping a diary of every time it happens, how long for and roughly what is said, can help for the future. We have found ours invaluable.
Hermoine - Oh thank you, that really made me smile (and blush!). :T Really glad that all went well for your daughter.
Penpin - hope you are feeling better today hon
thriftlady - I will be sat watching it too. I don't much like Andy Murray but I love tennis!

Wow we have rain! It must have started during the night. No wind though so it feels warm in here. Sounds nice on the window pane actually and I can just imagine the garden sighing in relief after nearly 3 wks without a drop of rain except our hosepipe every night!
We had baked potatoes for dinner last night but the potatoes were not good - very watery so that was disappointing. Had salad from the garden again - my OH actually harvested a whole lettuce as the heads are so big now. Plus some radishes and four more strawberries from the only plant that is producing fruit as yet. Lots of flowers on the others though.
Today nothing much gets done as my OH works two jobs and has to nap in the middle. I usually spend my time online or reading while he sleeps, which is lovely but not very productive! I haven't done any meal plans for ages and I know it helps him if I plan ahead so I will probably try to address that. And sort out the house insurance which is over due.
I do hope everyone has a great Friday - maybe no hugs as it's wayyyy too hot, but lots of positive thoughts for all who need them coming your way from me! (and a
as well if you want one!)

Well been up with Dd all night who has D&V bug, so not had proper

Made 4 pizzas with pizza maker yesterday so thats tea sorted, also
made 12 meat pies with pie maker, had some yesterday and some left
for lunch today for Hubby and family:D
We finally have a car as my DH passed his test last week at the grand
old age of 44:jIt only took 14 lessons though, I get so excited going
out in it :rotfl:a real plus though as my mobility is not good.
Hope you all have a good day x0 -
Hi Julie!
Sorry to hear your daughter has been poorly - hope she feels better today. You must both be exhausted being up all night. I am impressed with all the cooking you have done, the pies sound lovely. Congratulations to your husband too, that is a great achievement!
Darned seagulls are so noisy they momentarily woke up my OH but he is back to snoresville now.

Good Mornning Diva and Julie -and all to post later!
Have been missing a while - family problems plus supporting a bereaved friend - but hopefully back now. Julie - sorry your DD not well and you've had a disturbed night, hope she recovers quickly. Well done to your DH - you'll be having such fun with your own transport now!
Diva - we didn't get to grow much this year apart from flowers, just beans, which are at last beginning to grow up the poles! Still, I ought to get some lettuce in as I'm sure it grows quickly. Makes a difference eating you own produce, doesn't it?
Well, I need to virtually clean from top to bottom today as DS and family are coming for the weekend tonight and in the heat I've been really lazy:o
Am hoping it's a bit cooler as DGD's little room is very hot indeed. We do have one fan, but over the past few nights we've had it on in our room. Bet I can't find another anywhere now! I know it's not very MS, but without it we;d get no sleep at all! Anyway, I shall make the most of the cool now and get on with some housework!
Hope you all have a good day!Resolution:

Morning All
Had loads of rain last night but its made no difference to the heat and is even more muggy. So main aim of the day is to keep cool, thank goodness its Friday.
Not made up my mind whether to do housework this morning or paperwork - what a decision. Meeting a friend for lunch so at least that is sorted.
Going to have a quiet chill now, finish my tea and look at a couple of blogs.
Julie - hope DD improves asap.

Morning Chums well it looks like there was a shower during the night but not a great deal. My dd rang last night to say her DD's hampster had snuffed it.Her dd (Katie) is on holiday in Dominican Republic with her Dad for a fortnight so Tess will have to tell her when she phones. katie will be a bit upset as she loved her little pal,I think the heat just got too much for it. Poor Tess is not having a good week what with that, and her gall bladder problems.Still I'm off round there shortly to do the school run and then dig a hole for the little pet. This afternoon I have college and I hope the caretaker has opened the windows there as it can get really hot and uncomfortable there, only two more weeks though till I break up. I hope Andy Murray gets through it will be good to have a Brit in the finals.
I hope the cooler weather will come in soon I like the sunshine but the past few days have been a bit of a slog, especially at night when your trying to sleep.Still I suppose it will soon be autumn and we shall be moaning about the cold and rain.Just a nice shower would freshen us all up a bit though, and the garden really needs it .
My DGS came home from his holidays on Wednesday at 1.00.p.m. and dropped his case and went straight to work bless him.He has three weeks work at the Meridian Studios and is keen as mustard to get started.I hope it turns into something more permanant for him.He has just left college and is keen to get into t.v. production. His is still keeping his part-time Argos job on as well he's a real little grafter and loves working. well time for breakfast ,Thanks once again for all your good wishes and I'm still chuffed at the news that all's well and I have passed my first year of remission
Cheers chums

Morning everyone.
No rain here yet but it's cloudy and warm. Not sure if it will start later.
Was very proud of my DS yesterday at his little sports day. Normally he'd be crying and not willing to get involved but this time (because it was running and outdoors) he was loving it. He won the egg and spoon race but unfortunately afte dropping the egg he decided to just pick it up and run - likes to win at any cost. Wasn't so good at the sack race and was a bit slow to start on backwards walking but it was hilarious and so nice to see the kids participating. Both me and H thoroughly enjoyed it. Only downside is I got sunburn in one area as we were sitting in full sun and boy was it hot.
My H is the colour of beetroot as he was then helping his dad complete our fascias. Putting sun cream on is not his first thought so consequently he didn't sleep well (too hot) he resembles a ribena berry
Have been very lazy with regards to housework. I have found it too hot to do any so if it's cooler today I will try and get some done.
Couldn't really face anything hot to eat last night so we had a makeshift and I had some of my little gem lettuce out of the garden with cucumber (shop bought) and tinned tuna. Was delishDepending on how we feel today depends on what we have for tea.
So bit quiet on OS front so sorry
Julie - sorry you've had little sleep and hope DD is better soon. what you've made though sounds yummy (can you tell I've had no breakfast yet!)
Beemuzed - sorry you seem to be having a rough time of it and sorry about the bereavement of your friend.
Have a good day all OS or not.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks
All will be well in the end. If it's not well, it's not the end.Be humble for you are made of earth. Be noble for you are made of stars0 -
Morning all,
Its been raining in the night, but is it still hot, the garden would have been glad of it.
Work today, but its my last day for a few days so not too bad, dd is off for a sleepover tonight, and will bring a friend home with her to sleep here tomorrow night, so a quiet night tonight, and a noisy one tomorrow
Tonight I am cooking an Antionio Carluchio recipe for pasta with pesto and fresh peas from my garden :T will let you know how it goes.
I have a load of peas ready, carrots are nearly there, i have a few corgettes the size of my little finger, lettuce in abundance, toms and cues, french beans are coming on, and my runner beans have just started forming :Tits all coming on great, no sign of any squash yet but I suppose that will come later
Ok better get on, hugs to those in need, have good days all xx0 -
Morning peeps
very warm here again today although i am told that it will be cooler than the last couple of days, i`ve not seen the weather forecast yet but it seems very warm for this time of day.
I`m on the early shift for quite a while now, i don`t seem to get as many jobs done when i`m on this shift as by the time i get home i`m really tired. If the weather is very warm later i shall have an hour on the sofa.
I have the beginnings on a meal plan that i started yesterday which i need to finish off as DH is off to the supermarket tonight. I`m doing a 2 week planner this time as we have relatives from across the pond visiting and afterwards we are off on our hols. It`s finally starting to sink in that we are actually having a holiday this year even though it`s only a few days. I`m really starting to look forward to it.:j
It`s taken me ages to write this small post as people keep coming to have a natter so i shall say TTFN and pop back later.
((((HUGS)))) for anyone who needs one!
Have a good Friday peeps.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Bitsy I like your sig;) I studied John Donne at college. Brings back memeories.
Morning all:hello:
Plans for today
Laundry is already on, I should get it hung and the next load in before I go to school.
Breakfast will be yogurt pancakes -I seem to have a surplus of yogurt.
Take daughter to school on bike (I fell off it yesterday in front of lots of people:rolleyes:) then go for a cycle after before it gets too hot. Ooh it's lovely cycling on the flat or downhill in hot weather, really cooling.
Post a film back to Lovefilm and my enrollment for French next term (hoping there'll be enough students for it to carry on in the daytime).
Make some bread and biscuits/cake.
Lunch of leftover couscous salad -packed lunches today are couscous salad, fruit and blueberry muffins. Water bottles are in the freezer one quarter full of ice;) My daughter is absolutely obsessed with ice at the moment, keeps opening the freezer:rolleyes:
Watch Andy Murray-he will win, he will win, even though he's not as charismatic as Tim Henman I want him to win.
Fetch daughter from school. She's off to a party until 8 so tea will be something with eggs :j:jprobably Spanish omelette or frittata type thing depending on how hot it is.
Open a bottle and watch a film:beer:0 -
