Miele or Dyson DC 25

I am debating whether to buy a Miele or a Dyson DC25 all floors. I have read good reviews on miele but am not sure about the bags as they are expensive and how often do you need to change it. The Dyson seems a bit heavy for me, I was looking at the dc24 but the wattage is low. Anybody using Miele on this forum? Thanks

Hi,
This is going to be the usual Miele versus Dyson thread I suspect!
Miele bags - don't be put off. The average use would be 2 boxes of 4 per year. I think they cost around £8 a box so £16 a year for consumables on Miele. The bag and filters are virtually THE most important things in a vacuum cleaner. What people don't realise is that although the filters on a Dyson cleaner are HEPA grade, that is it. Where as all Miele vacuums fitted with their Active HEPA filter pass the most stringent of particle retention tests which is a requirement for hygenically clean environments such as laboratory clean rooms, because the hole air system on a Miele is certified not just the filter.
We have used both Dyson and Miele at home and the Miele cleaners far out last Dyson, do a better job and are quieter.
The choice is yours!0 -
Have a look at the SEBO range, brilliant vacuums, you wont look at a Dyson once you have had one.

Hi Hethmar - After just having problems with the Miele upright S7210, (sending back today) I am considering a sebo (ratings on amazon, for eg, are all 4.5/5 star) - however am concerned about performance on carpet - the felix premium 1 is only rated as average on carpet by which? - any suggestions for one that would cope with a thick shag-pile style carpet and even thicker/longer pile rug? Many thanks.0

Miele every time! Quiet, cleans brilliantly and sturdier than Dyson.0

Dyson do have good guarantees and after sales and of course no bags but I agree they are heavy
Heard Miele are good but never used them0 -
My Miele bags only need changed about every 10 months!! (Use only 1/2 times per week) Got a free box when I bought so haven't had to buy any yet. Having gone from a Dyson I must say I do like not having to empty it every week which I pretty much did in comparison. Also good not looking at all the accumulated dirt!!0

Everyone I know who has bought a Dyson is onto their second or third. That makes me think that they are unreliable but the owners still love them. Alternatively have a look at the dead hoover pile at the local tip, I'm sure Dyson's market share isn't that large.
£16/year for bags seems much cheaper than £100/year on replacement Dysons.0 -
I have had two dysons dc01 and dc07 both have lasted around 5 years0

Hi, well I have two dogs and my son (who left home about 8 years ago now) has asthma so I got mine (the hospital grade hypoallergenic model) with all that in mind and still have the same one.
When I got a deeper carpet I rang them and they sold me a different brush for it but I think that was because the new carpet had sort of knotted berber weave (useless carpet too, am waiting for new axminster).
Its so easy to take apart and put together, I love that.
Give them a ring - I gave you a link to their home page or go to John Lewis to have a look at them.
My sister has just bought one and she is amazed how much better its is to the Dysons she has had over the years. So light too, it virtually pulls itself along and of course automatically adjust to depths of carpet and wood/tiled floors. Oh and I dont know how big your house is, but ours is quite large and it meant I was forever uplugging the hoover and putting it into other plugs for even parts of a room. The SEBO have longer leads than usual so I dont have to fiddle about so much with that.0 -
Thanks for replying Heathmar - what one is the hospital grade/hypoallergenic one? From website all seem to have same s class filtration etc? Can't decide between felix design's or X4 designs either & bit worried 1300 watts won't be enough (Miele below had 1800w) I'm so confused!
:exclamatiCautionary note re MIELE S7210 UPRIGHT - just purchased this week and returning as plastic bit at back got stuck in the carpet and meant I couldn't use it any more, as it kept on getting stuck - bit of a design flaw I think - could have been just this one I suppose, but as it is part of the design, I'd worry it would happen again eventually. (All the S7's seem to have the same design.)0
