I hate being ripped off for postage and packaging. Sometimes you think that P+P is a fair amount until you receive the item and discover that it's been way overcharged.

As a seller, sometimes my item just fits into the category below what I thought it would for weight and I always check what postage I've paid against what has been charged when I get home from the post office and if I've overcharged I make a partial refund through Paypal straight away with my apologies.

I think your buyer is justified for being miffed off.

No - actually it was a 500% mark up.

So even huger than you thought ;)

Even if the buyer hasnt asked, I always send email if they have made multiple purchases whether they would like the items posted together and the always refund all the extra apart form actual postage and packaging materials. I do this even if they have paid seperately. I have never had a buyer say that one of the items is missing - and as only low value clothes - if they did, it wouldnt be the end of the world.

It makes for a very happy buyer.

    I have good p&p stars.

Did you package the items as one parcel, and then charge p&p at the individual rate - £1?
If you did, you would get negs from me with 1 star on p&p for all the items.

Sorry OP but I think the negs are justified and I would of left you them too.

Have just had a similar thing happen to me, the individual postage was reasonable and she said she would combine (not that you should have to ask ) but her combined postage was all of 50p cheaper which was hugely excessive and I will be leaving negative feedback x 10.

I guess I'm the only one with the OP on this one, but the buyer knew what she was paying, if they weren't happy with the price, they shouldn't have bid.

and if the OP wasnt willing to realistically combine postage then all items should have been sent seperatly
  • As a seller I'll always combine postage and for overseas buyers, if I've charged them way to much, which I have done on a couple of occasions, I'll refund them as soon as I get back from the PO, minus a couple of ££.

As a buyer, if I'd bought a number of things and I discover that the combined postage was way, way over the odds, as the OPs was IMHO, I'd ask the seller for some of it back and if they said no I'd score them one of their DSR and neg' them.

As a seller, I weigh items, calculate postage online and add 10p for the cost of the mailing sack. If someone asks for combined P+P on multiple items, how can I reduce more than 10p each?
Meant as a genuine question, as I'd like to offer reduced combined P+P, just not quite sure how it works :o

Must admit though in this case i do think the seller could have refunded some of the P+P and thus avoided 10x negs.

Two items do not necessarily cost more than one to post.

For instance I sell an item that weighs say 110g, 2nd class that costs me 76p as a large letter, but if I sell two and they can still go as a large letter I still only pay 76p postage. Therefore combining postage saves me 76p in postage, the cost of a second bag and also 20p (the fixed element) of the paypal fees.

    Same with packet sized items. 1 x 110g item = £1.41 to post. 2 x 110g items = £1.41 to post so again I can combine postage.

The only trouble comes with large letters where one costs say 76p to send, but two would be a packet instead and cost £1.41 which barely leaves any saving.
