Just cancelled and rebooked my one paying night at the Orleans so I now have 2 nights comped with $25 food credit thrown in and one night at $24 so if you ignore the tax-(no resort charge as some nights are comped)the Orleans are in effect paying me a dollar to stay three nights :D

I'd try calling netflights in the morning Luci-you'll only be a tad over 24 hours so might be able to push it as you couldn't get through. Worth a try anyway.
Is the connection through the same airport or is it a different routing ? If it's the same airport if they won't change it-go straight to the check in desk at Washington or where-ever and see if they will let you standby for the earlier flight (UA at the UK airport-*might* be able to get you on the standby list when you first check in too but it's not guaranteed they wiill)

No it's a completely different routing. Now going via Denver rather than LAX.

The email was only sent at 3.30pm so I'm well within 24 hours.

There was a SFO connection available when I first found out, but by midnight it had gone.

When I checked a few days ago the original flight was pretty full so there was a whole plane load of people being re-routed and the ones that had booked direct with United would have had first dibs on what was available.

I am certainly going to try as soon as they open this morning. I was told 9am, but their website says 8.45am. One of them, either NetFlights or United can't 100% remember which, asked if I wanted them to check the day before and I said No off the top of my head as I hadn't even considered it, but that would be better for us if the option is still there.

Ok guys! ... This year i lose my Vegas Virginity :D

I've booked 2 flights With Virgin Heathrow ->San Fran .. staying in San fran over night, and hopfully visiting Alcatraz. Booking a hire car and driving to Vegas via Yosemite and Deathvalley (Still trying to work out what accomodation is available on this route)

Thats what we did - flew to SFO, couple of nights in Holiday Inn on Fishermans Wharf using points, Alcatraz tour (excellent), bus tour of the city, and we flew to Vegas due to the distance. Only thing I might change was doing a winery tour instead of the city tour, but keeping the Alcatraz bit.

Winery tour we may look into that, many thanks! :D

Well I called NetFlights this morning and it's a no go. They wanted to charge £150 each to change plus any difference in the cost of the fare.

Apparently they are sending an "investigation" to their Schedule Change dept who are not open at the weekend and I should get a call Monday or Tuesday. I'll believe that when it happens.

I think it's ridiculous to be emailed at 3.30pm on a Friday when they close at 6pm and are closed all weekend. There was no guarantee that I would pick up the email before 6 and the only reason I did was because I was waiting for an email about something else.

It's now obviously outwith the short period when the change could be made FOC.

We flew into SFO and out of LAX. Driving to LAX was about five hours.....basically turn right at Caesars and drive in a straight line for 350 miles easy peasy - just make sure you have enough petrol as theres pretty much nothing in between. SFO was a different ballgame.....even straight driving would probably have included an overnight, but with detouring into the parks, that would have eaten into Vegas time!!!

I agree, especially as many people book flights with their home email address listed and don't check their personal email address at work...it's completely unreasonable...and especially as in your case you DID try to sort it out before the window closed and couldn't get through.

If it were me, there would be yelling. :)

Just wanted to say that sometimes the info here works in weird and mysterious ways.

Based on stoneman and duchy's comments and help with the AA platinum challenge, we made the decision to fly with AA our next trip with connections instead of doing our 'normal' open-jaw with Virgin (LHR->ORD and LAS->LGW with an internal flight probably with AA). I had read this week that Virgin were killing the Chicago flights 'this winter' but today found out that it's actually the 12th of September...we would have been booked to fly with them to Chicago on 25th September had we not opted to book with AA to check out the challenge (which I doubt we would have heard about were it not for this board)...so would be looking at being shifted to another carrier, etc. OK, so it probably wouldn't have been tragic having nearly 3 months advance notice, but I wouldn't have been happy about it.

    So thanks guys! :)
