October , NovemberYo Trets - you just need to update post #1 as BA now fly direct too
We booked June 2010 today - Vegas baby!
I have just been looking at the flights for June. We were not planning to go until the end of next year as we already have a trip booked up for November this year, but at those prices, I think we may have to book something up. £380 is a good price, especially considering the price of Virgin flights on the same dates.0 -

I am trying to plan our first trip to Las Vegas, well first time to USA actually! and whilst I am trying to read as much as I can I would really do with a little help please. We are looking to fly to vegas in October for two weeks but dont want to spend all that time in vegas as think it would be a bit much for us, we are very keep to explore the surrounding area and besides visiting the grand canyon and hoover dam has anyone got any other suggestions please?
I was thinking 1 night in Fleetstaff and 2 at Grand Canyon so its nice and leisurely, but would love a few more nights out of vegas exploring!
any advice would be greatly appreciated please.
many thanks jemma
If you are doing the GC then the last thing you wnat to be doing is trekking all the way back to Yosemite. Nice to see Zion got two recommendations ...from people who have never been!
Other places "east" of vegas to do on a typical roadtip are:
Monument valley
Canyonlands
Arches National Park
Page (Antelope canyon / horseshoe bend / day on the lake)
Bryce canyon
Zion National ParK
Apart from the crater outside Flagstaff you coul also do Sedonna area and smaller places like Walnut canyon
Death Valley is "west" of Vegas and within a relatively short drive. Worth it to say you have been there, but not a patch on any of the other places listed above.0 -
October , NovemberSo the crux of it is, I wouldn't recommend booking scheduled flights with an agent. When we had a schedule change with American Airlines, I had booked direct so a quick call and I was able to change to flights I wanted rather than the ones they had changed us to.
A lesson learned.
Sorry to hear about all that, Luci...what a PITA.
I always feel weird thanking people for posting something that's not a positive thing, but it's a good point you raise. Personally, I would not have thought you would have had to go through netflights to make the change - I would have assumed once you were ticketed on United they could help you...so it's good info to have for those of us who would have made incorrect assumptions at least!Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
SeptemberYes that's why I posted it, as a warning to others.
I was kicking myself for not booking direct with the airline, and then I remembered that the flights on the United website were £200pp more expensive.0 -
October , NovemberI have just booked for June 7th - 17th with BA for £380 each. At that price it ad to be done.
I have now got 2 trips to plan.0 -
AugustOk guys! ... This year i lose my Vegas Virginity
I've booked 2 flights With Virgin Heathrow ->San Fran .. staying in San fran over night, and hopfully visiting Alcatraz. Booking a hire car and driving to Vegas via Yosemite and Deathvalley (Still trying to work out what accomodation is available on this route) ... Last night i booked 4 nights at the MGM (Free food, inner tubes, slot money offer) .. still trying to decide what hotel to book for the remaining 4 nights
Thanks for all the help/advice/trip reports!"Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone, and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering"0 -

Any takers on The New Yorker - anyone stayed there before?[/QUI
I havent stayed at the the New Yorker but my parents have a couple of times, they liked it (they did say that it was a bit tatty but if you'd have seen some of the places I've stayed in NY I'm sure it's pretty good) and its really central. If theres a knicks game on I'd recomend it although your not there long and might struggle to fit everything in. If you want to do a tour I'd recomend the NY Movie Location tour as you'll see loads of sights as well as going to the ghostbusters hq. Best place for a drink is at the marriott in times sq, go to the bar on the 8th floor, grab a table at the window and enjoy the best view of times sq. For the best burger in the world, put some shoes on and get to the Rainbow Room at the top of the Rockafella, $28 for a burger that they cut and mince to order, hmmm oh and the view is amazing!
Err and back to vegas I will write up my TR next week I promise!0 -

Thanks!
We stayed there a couple of years ago. It's fine.
Rooms are a little bit dated but clean -ours was HUGE but they do vary. Ours had a view of ESB
Don't book sightseeing tours with the desk (can't spell consi-whatsit this time of night) as they loaded the prices.
Location was fab subway stop really close about 1 minute walk although we walked to Times Square a couple of times as it was faster than a taxi at theatre time (in fact one night three of us got a cab and two of us walked-and the walkers got there first) and the 24 hour diner was great and reasonable.
I'd definitely stay there again if the price was right.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
