By the time we got back to the hotel it was around 6. We freshened up and headed down to the casino to play some slots before dinner. I did quite well on a goldfish machine, managing to make my $10 last around 2 hours before losing it while J won about $50 on reel ‘em in. We decided to stay around the hotel tonight so settled on Society Cafe again for dinner. I had the trenne pasta, which was one of the nicest pasta dishes I’ve ever eaten, while J went for the burger with blue cheese. We were seated at the same table as lunch yesterday so got to people watch again, and couldn’t believe the amount of people heading past to go to XS. We just had water with dinner and were planning to order a desert when the waitress brought us the bill- hmmm not the greatest service in here but the food is nice so it hasn’t put us off going back. Total was about $55 including tip.

Oops i read my TR and realised something sounded wrong but couldn't work it out until now. I forgot to add in the bit where we went to see the Fremont Street Experience. When we left Primm we didn't go straight back to the hotel and play slots. We actually drove to downtown, and parked at the Golden Nugget (note that parking is something like $2 an hour here for non guests, although its free if you get your ticket validated in the casino). We walked through the Golden Nugget, which was crammed with people, and out onto Fremont Street. There were a few live bands playing here and we walked up and down looking at the various hotels waiting for the light show to start. The reason we ventured down was because I had read that that weekend the light show was a 40th anniversary tribute to the moon landing, and as i'm a bit of a space nerd it was the push i needed to finally go downtown. The light show was really fun, very enjoyable and i'm glad we went down to see it. In total we probably spent only an 90 mins or so there and for me it was enough. I'm glad i went down and experienced it, but its not for me tbh As the GN casino was packed we didn't bother queing to get our parking ticket validated, and just paid the $4 fee to get out of the parking garage. We drove back to Encore around 8.30, freshened up and headed down to the casino about 9.00. The rest of the TR above is right, we played slots and had a late dinner about 10.00 at Society cafe.

I've edited the original post now, but didn't want to confuse peeps who had already read it. I've random pieces of paper scattered about all over the place with things i've jotted down during my stay. I really need a more organised system for next time lol

The problem your sister now has with travel insurance is that she is already out of the UK so most mainstram insurers won't touch her.

However I believe that https://www.worldwideinsure.com or https://www.worldnomads.com will.

For the purposes of travel insurance, Turkey is usually classed at Europe, but best to double check.

    Claire,
just shows how different tastes can be. You say that you don't like the Encore pool, but having tried lots of pools in Vegas I find it the best, so does Tracy. One thing you didn't mention was the european pool. Much nicer than the small pool. And I agree that the rooms are very masculine, that's why I liked them so much. Makes a change from the girly colours of the casino.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Great trip report, loved reading about all the different restaurants you went to and intersting on your opinions of Continental, we were thinking of doing similar from Bristol this year but the times didn't fit, finally booked BA from Heathrow, we are going for 13 nights in December our 5th vegas trip and 3rd Christmas trip. have the first 5 nights at Bellagio and last 3 at the Golden Nuggett, hoping to get a good price Wynn/Encore for the middle 5, husband want's to stay at Wynn, I like the look of Encore rooms which opened when we were there last Christmas, it was good to read your comment on the location, we did wonder if maybe we would be a bit to far down but we also spend more time at that end of the strip - we'll see!

It is a nice pool Stoneman, its just not my favourite in Vegas. I did have a look at the E. pool the first morning, but as i like (actually i don't like but i have to work that food of:rotfl:) swimming laps the regular pool was more suited to me. Plus i got loungers in the same place every day which were right in the sun all the time so i was reluctant to move.

The pool was disappointing to me, because I couldn't help but compare Encore to Wynn and this is one area where for me Encore fell short. But these things are all down to personal taste like you say, and when i say i was disappointed i still enjoyed the time i spent at the pool, I just wasn't tempted to stay there all day like i have been at others IYSWIM.

Andrea, the walk from the guest elevators in Encore to the Wynn casino isn't very long so I don't think there's anything between W/E in terms of location. Good luck on solving your W/E debate, I knew before going just by looking at pictures online that my OH would prefer the Encore rooms while I would still like Wynn's better and I was right:D But as i say the walk between the two is so short that whichever one you stay in you will be able to access the other one easily enough. We were in Wynn as much as Encore, and yet it didn't feel like we had left the hotel at all.

Really great report, Claire! I loved reading it. I plan to refer back to it for some restaurant suggestions for our next trip as a number of them sounded really nice to me.

As for the distance between Wynn and Encore - we thought the same - it's not really a big deal, but you'd be amazed how many people over at Open Vegas moan about it being a 15 minute walk between properties and how they won't stay at Encore because of it! My husband and I are not at all fit, but we found the walk to take less than 5 minutes and be perfectly reasonable. With all the walking you do in Vegas, that's just nothing. :)
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?
