It's quite warm during the day that time of year - if the averages are anything to go by...seem to recall when we went last year late September/early October it was a lot cooler than average though.

There aren't any massive conventions that time of year nor are there any US holidays.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Hi Spalding - We love Sept and we've been twice at that time of year - Labour Day is usually the first weekend of Sept, and it gets BUSY! Lots of queues over that weekend, but this isn't a problem for us. Good weather too both times we've been with plenty of opportunity to sit at the pool.... :)

Ferf - we've stayed in the Celeb Spa suite. We enjoyed the extra space and it had a nice seating area. The bathroom was absolutely huge, but there's lots of spare floor space. They could have utilised this with maybe a double shower or an even bigger tub. The entire suite was in desperate need of a facelift. It's quite drab and a little on the dark side, so we had the lights on a lot in the room we stayed in. (I believe that at least some of these rooms are being renovated?). They're also all at the end of the corridoors, so it's a hike from the elevator. I wouldn't rule out in that room type again, but they are some drawbacks.....

First time posting hear, I feel I have been reading this forever.
I am taking my son to Vegas on Saturday as his 21st birthday treat.
He loves poker and I want to organise so he can play . We are staying in the MGM, do we just turn up at the poker rooms and wait for a space , or does he need to book.

Are there any recommendations for him to play poker

Thanks in advance for the helpful replies I am sure you will give me
Got back from a week at Signature@MGM, and played poker most days at MGM.

So.....cash or tourneys? Cash just turn up and put your name on the relevant list eg 1-2, 3-6.

Tourneys are 11am and 7pm - $65 and $80 from memory. Just turn up about ten minutes before and register with Mark at the small desk at the back of the poker room.....any later and you may be aiting for people to crash and burn. There was about six tables each tourney, with over a grand for 1st place....top six paid.

Its a pity MGM doesnt do afternoon tourneys - I played once each at Caesars 3pm, Hard Rock 1pm, TI 2pm.....forget the last two....but Caesars was good, although my luck wasnt.

Poker room right by the Stage Deli for a quick snack eg Matzo Ball soup and a corn beef sandwich (its actually salt beef).

If he has never played live before, he'll need to learn quickly what stringing is, one large chip is a call unless announced otherwise etc......if it helps, always announce your bets before putting them down eg call, raise etc.

Someone has also posted this site previously, which tells you the start times, buy in and payout percentage for all the casinos. It's great if you're out wandering,or if you're like us, you'd keep missing the start - lol

We normally go at the start of September, weather is great. Temperatures in the mid to high 30s during the day so perfect pool weather (too hot to walk far during the day). The days after Labor day tend to be cheap for hotel rates. I prefer to go Labor day and after rather than the week and weekend before.
• I forgot to mention that we had problems with out Nationwide credit card this trip. I don't know if it is something new they have introduced but its never happened before. Our first full day we hit the shops (both outlet malls, that's a lot of shops and purchases). Anyway, I had been using the Nationwide card all morning when it was refused. I thought maybe it was just a problem with that shop so used another card. Tried it again next shop and it was refused again. Worried that Nationwide had blocked the card we call them up (not cheap on a mobile from the US!). It seems that we had used up our 9 allowed international transactions a day and it couldn't be used again until the next day! Luckily we had a Abbey Zero card too but I never knew about this bizarre rule (9 transactions can be easily done if you're paying for meals and other bits as well as shopping).

Thanks for the info - I'd also read that they were renovating these rooms - though not sure how soon they will all be done...will keep in mind your comments in our decision making process. :)
