AugustSounds worth watching-years ago Piers was a client where I used to work. What you see on TV is what he's like in reality. Some of his celeb one on one interviews recently have been really good.
Anyone else thinking of NOT planning a trip until the authorities drop these silly and ineffective so called security measures brought in over the last couple of days ? How turning off IFE, banning blankets and pillows and anything on laps including laptops and books is blinking ridiculous.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

My husband and I were talking about the new 'security measures' yesterday and totally agree that they'll be completely ineffective, but it won't stop us flying...we're already booked for Easter so I suppose we may look at it differently if we hadn't already had something booked, but are shortly going to book a July trip elsewhere in the US.
It is completely ridiculous and will make the last hour of the flight more painful, but we'll put up with it.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
AugustI'm hoping it's a knee jerk reaction and when the grown ups return from their Christmas/New Year break and take over from the junior staff left holding the fort over the holidays that common sense will return.
Still trying to work out why this guy wasn't on the no fly list and how he got a US visa. Talk about overkill diversion to cover up the holes in the system. I'd rather the authorities exchanged more information (like the fact this guy was refused entry into the UK after a false declaration) than concerned themselves with paperback wielding terrorists !!I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

October , Novembertotally agree...and the fact that the guy's DAD contacted the US embassy when he became concerned about his son...I mean, really...it's his DAD...not some random crank...if the guy's father thinks he may be a risk - so much so to bring this to the US government's attention - surely that should have been given additional consideration.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0

hadn't heard of any of that, so done a bit of digging... i think IFE is now restored (certainly was on Virgin flights yesterday) (the fear being is it allows bombers to see where they are using the 'map' feature of IFE...)
here's a detailed and quite interesting telegraph link on it all (including different rules in Paris, Asia etc to throw people off):

i agree with you guys, this will tidy up and is just a short-term re-action - can you imagine a 10 hour flight with nothing to do! jeez! i'd have to take sleeping tablets or something!0 -
My Mam, Aunt and Uncle are currently at Gatwick waiting for their LV delayed 3hrs due to the extra security, we've never done 10hrs but have done Orlando 8.5-9hrs and the thought of nothing to do especially with kids:eek:0

October , NovemberI'd thought it was only the last hour of the flight that you had to put away pillows, blankets, media players, books...Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0

They were saying that at first, maybe it depends on the airline0
-
October , NovemberI haven't read anywhere that any airlines are not allowing passengers to read books, use media players, etc. anytime other than the last hour - personally not fussed with IFE as we rarely bother with it, but not to be able to use our media players - that might in fact kill us.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0
