For all those that have been:

    1. Is it worth buyign the coupon booklets?

TangoBunny has given you some links to free coupons - here are a few more:

    http://www.destinationcoupons.com/nevada/Las_Vegas/las-vegas-coupons.asp

http://www.vegasexperience.com/coupons/ (password is RealVegas - you can put in anything@anything.com as the email address).

Actually, just do a google search for 'Vegas coupons' you will find oodles.

Whether or not buying either of the coupon books is worth it is really down to you. Though I would think that the American Casino Guide is getting hard if not impossible to come by this time of year (at least in previous years it has been hard to find as they publish in November and by now most places are sold out).

We prefer the Las Vegas Advisor coupon book - though it's more expensive than the ACG. But it just depends on what you would use out of it. Best thing to do is to look at the coupons offered, figure out which you would use and see if it's worth it. But for a first-timer, plans go out the window, so keep that in mind.

I've got a part used LVA coupon book to give away, so if you're interested PM me by Friday and I'll put your name in the hat.

    Whats the best magic show?

As Dan said, opinons will vary. We loved Penn & Teller - some people hate them. We loved Mac King's afternoon show (free with purchase of drink with coupon readily available). We liked Lance Burton but preferred his sleight of hand to his big illusions. Overall, Mac King is great value and a fun afternoon show. Have heard several people say that David Copperfield is up his own bottom and it detracts from the show.

    Guys,

    Here's the latest.

We had 2 choices for flights out:

    1. Leave Manchester and arrive in Las Vegas on the 15th @ approx. 21:00
    2. Leave Manchester and arrive in Las Vegas on the 16th @ approx. 00:10

Option 1 comes with 1 stop in Atlanta (4 hours)
Option 2 comes with 1 stop in New York (6 hours)

We went for Option 2. We figured we're just gonna sleep upon arrival, be it 21:00 or 00:10. Going for Option 2 gives us a benefit - spending a few hours in New York.

Now the big letdown is we kinda lose out on 1 night at the MGM Grand as we technically arrive on the 16th. I called up the MGM Grand and they said they can change the booking but they cannot guarantee room availability as we arrive around 1 AM (check-in time is usually 15:00)

Sticking with the 15th guarantees we'll be sleeping in a room and gambling the 16th saves us the night rate but comes with a high risk possibility - sleeping in the lobby!

I know this is Vegas but is it worth taking a risk?

There is no way I would turn up in Vegas after travelling for 24 hours (in our case) and not have a bed to go to.

Just because you aren't arriving till after midnight makes no difference. The room is booked from 3pm the day before until 11am that day.

I have seen people speak about sleeping in cars and gambling all night rather than pay for that room just because they will have a few hours less in it. That could work out FAR more expensive than just paying for the room and you could ruin the first few days of the holiday just recovering from being up for almost 2 days solid.

Totally with Luci on that one.

Take the price of the room for the night of your arrival - divide it by 2...divide that by 12...there you have an approximate hourly cost each to have the room booked the first night. Is it worth that much to each of you to have a bed to crash in? I'd have to think it would be.

Hope that helps, honestly though researching on here and places like Tripadvisor are really good resources for tips. There are a few links on the first post that take you to various forums, there's always some new tip out there.

BTW I'm gutted, you didn't ask about my shoes :rotfl:.
