Also - has anyone stayed at the Tudor Rose? The location looks good and I like the idea of having a balcony or patio and breakfast included, I've only been once before and stayed at the Sahara 7 years ago, which was fine, but it'd be nice to be at the top of the strip. Looking for a weeks stay for around $500-600 - any recomendations?

Not sure why top end of the strip (Downtown) is good......read a few of the comments on this thread that Downtown was the only place in Vegas they didnt feel safe......me included. Too many dossers, shady looking people, hoodies for my liking. Inside the casinos was fine......walking around from carparks to casinos....hmmmmm.

Go for Bellagio deal at $90 a night and stump up a few bucks for a bagel and a coffee somewhere.

Wow - 'poor reviews' is an understatement! $80 a head to do the Skywalk!
I'm relieved we were heading for Sedona and ended up doing the South Rim, which was fantastic and absolutely rip-off-free.

The "top end" to us is the MGM-Mandalay bay. Probably a lot of people think of th strip that way round.

Could seem to find Papillion doing one so if you could point in the right direction that would be great cheers

Here is a link to the Papillon site (I spelt it wrongly earlier)

They are more expensive than I remembered.

There are usually books in hotel rooms and around the strip with money off coupons, but whether they are for the exact tour you want is another question.

We did the GC many moons ago by plane from Boulder City and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I'm pretty sure we flew around mid-day and the turbulence was just horrendous. Also, with the sun being directly overhead we didn't see the colours of the Canyon in their full glory.

I have toyed with the helicopter to the West Rim. I know the purists say this is not the GC proper, but I'm sure it would still be fairly impressive. Might do it next year for my birthday.

If it is Desert Rose - it's probably not as good of a location as you think...depending on when you are going it might be OK if you're happy to walk a bit to get anywhere...it's probably 1/2 mile to the MGM if I'm thinking of the right place and probably a bit further to the top of the strip - depending on where that would start, exactly. :) From what I can remember it's not hugely pedestrian friendly to cross in that area - there are sidewalks but the crossings are spread apart quite a bit and you don't want to jaywalk in Vegas. If a balcony or patio is important then maybe it would suit. There are a few hotels that have balconies but they're very small (like in some cases you couldn't even stand out on them.

I also haven't heard of the Tudor Rose, but have heard of the Desert Rose which is behind Hooters and not far from the MGM. It gets good reviews and I think they include a snack type breakfast.

The top end of the strip to me is towards Downtown as that's north. MB and MGM are at the bottom (south) end.

I wouldn't pay $5 to see Ms. Madison in it, what an air headed wannabe. Now if they could get Jessica Simpson :D

After some dscussion with the missus we reckon they would have to pay us $50 each for us to go and see Peepshow, and for other shows the missus would go and see Donny&Marie if it was free (I'd need to be paid) and the most we would pay to be tempted to a cirque show would be about $20.

The Imperial Palace and Harrah's have balconies, but the IP is at the bottom end of the market although the location can't be beaten.

The Signature has balconies in some suites, but it towards the higher end of the market although you can get it for around $100/night.

Peep Show gets consistently good reviews so it can't be that bad.

Our room at Harrah's had a balcony, but it was about 8 inches deep if that. My feet are longer than 8 inches, but it was nice to get a bit of fresh air and hear the band playing.
