2 police dogs die in hot car

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/nottinghamshire/8129826.stm

Absolutely heartbreaking to hear. I wonder how many dogs die every day because of this reason

Never ever ever leave a dog in a car, even on a cloudy day the heat can be too much inside a car.

This makes me really angry!

I'm amazed! We're a little further south and in a different police authority but here the vans have cooling vents etc - poor dogs though :( Also surprised the dog handler left the dogs long enough for them to die - most handlers love their dogs very dearly and would be very unlikely to leave them in a hot van intentionally for that long :(

Disgusting isnt it. A child would know you dont leave a living creature in an oven. Makes you realise what sort of idiots they are recruiting nowdays (if we needed reminding)

Wasnt it just last year some idiot left two stray dogs in the police kennels and then forgot to feed and water them for a week? Another two deaths.

Most dog vans are air conditioned to prevent this (the driver has to open the window.. only the dog benefits!). It's possible the vehicle stalled or overheated or indeed it was just an idiot dog handler. Keep an open mind folks.

I am sorry LeeSouthEast but I don't agree. No dog should be left in a car, air conditioned or not...

On Tuesday there was another report of 4 dogs dying in hot cars http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/highlands_and_islands/8126382.stm

People need to use their brain and common sense when it comes to weather like we currently have.

I saw someone walking 2 elderly dogs just before lunchtime, when I say walking, I mean, the person was pulling their dogs along...dogs were clearly struggling in this heat.

If you can not look after a dog (or any pet) responsibly, you shouldn't have them. It is not mandatory to own a pet.

Where do you suggest the dog handler puts the dog then, whilst he is in HQ which will not have any kennels? An air conditioned dog van is kept at a very comfortable 20-ish degrees celsius. The alternative is tie it up outside somewhere in the sun where it'll be considerably hotter, in direct sunlight, with the opportunity to take chunks out of anyone who walks by and thinks "nice doggy".

These dogs are part of the police force, they should be taken into where-ever the handler goes.

... you can't be serious. Most are not even house-trained.

The RSPCA should treat this as they treat every other offence against an animal...regardless if its a police officer or idiot who causes the suffering....dog handlers are not above the law...an animal should not be made to suffer...end of story...
