    Nikki,

In that case, since we have the manual, we should be able to sort you out.

Could you try going through the setup again, using the CD provided. Before doing so, please make sure you disconnect your speedtouch modem downstairs, and make absolutely sure you've got the correct Username and Password for your ISP.
Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!

If it does act as a modem there will be no need to use your current modem. If you don't want to mess around too much with your current pc set up I would suggest that to try things out you do the following. Bring your laptop and the new router downstairs. Disconnect your phone line from your exisiting modem, connect to the router and try again to set up the router on your laptop. Hopefully that flashing light which should have stopped flashing once the line was synched will now stop. If it is you are the best part of the way there and at least know that the router is ok. After that you can start to consider the wireless issues.

    its simple.
plug in the router, connect it to your computer via wired ethernet.
type in the ip , in this case 192.168.0.1
at this stage you dont need the router connected to the line, only the ethernet or usb if your using it that way. if you cant get to 192.168.0.1, then solve that first before moving on.
that will bring up the setup page. put in all the details needed, at this stage you dont even need to setup the wireless part.
first thing is to get you connected.
once your on the routers page its pretty self explanatory.
    Waddle you do eh?

Well... I tried everything I could... got the laptop downstairs..tried it on th e downstairs computer.. nothing all the lights were on but simply would not connect so i asked a 14 year old neighbour to come in who whilst i was trying to see what he was doing asked for a brew... 2 minutes later I came back and all was working.. I asked what I had done wrong and he said nothing you just had not completed the installation...

So I asked if I could now connect the lap top and he collected a "thing" from his house that you plug into the side.. it just sticks out.. god knows what it is and that then worked after 5 mins of him messing..

asked him how much he wanted for it and he asked for 15.00.

so now my son can be upstairs breaking the laptop with linewire (which I refused him access to on this) and I can be on MSE... perfection!!!!

I bought a Belkin router, made in Northamptonshire, and have a freephone helpline. I ran into problems with it to start, phoned the helpline, but still had problems, so they arranged to send me a replacement free of charge. Also let me keep the original one.

I would definately recommend Belkin, as new router working fine, providing internet access to my desktop computer in the conservatory and my son's laptop in his bedroom.

I am glad I bought a UK made product which has a freephone helpline, as without that, I would still be struggling. It is worth paying a little extra for the piece of mind.
    keep smiling,
