AS espresso said- u need to have those settings in your router - they look right to me.
Open IE on your pc and in the address bar try typing 192.168.1.1
this may bring up a login page for your router.
The IP I am on about is the IP you are allocating to the router on your internal network.
If 192.168.1.1 doesn't work go to the start menu and click on run. Type in cmd - Then in the dos window that appears type ipconfig/all - you should see here an item listed as default gateway and next to that an ip address. Type that into your browser and that will take you to the router login page.Starting MB- looking for Raf offers.

I'm certainly not an expert in this, although I do have a wireless set up were everything is set up wirelessly, i.e. I dont have any devices connected by wire to my router.
There is something you said in an earlier post about your broadband being connected downstairs and you connecting your router to an extension upstairs which sounds to me that it may be problematic. Other people on here will be able to tell you if this is so.

Repeat:
You are only trying to connect one device (modem/router) to your line at any one time aren't you?

What do you mean.. i have everything plugged into the sockets as they were before I started trying to install the thing... the onlything I unplugged was the upstairs 2nd sky phone connection as that was in the socket I am using for the router...
Now this may seem a very silly question but.... I was right in thinking the router is connected to the computer thast has no internet connection at the moment.. ie the old laptop... you don't install it on the computer you have the boardband on already do you?????0 -

Your new modem/router replaces your old BB modem. Simply unplug everything from your old BB modem and plug the wires into your new modem/router.
Connect the router to your Dell computer using an Ethernet cable (the old modem may have used a USB cable).0 -
You have a two or three choices. Firstly you can connect your wireless router to your downstairs computer but disconnect the current modem. To connect your laptop wirelessly you will then need an adapter, usb or notebook network card. Alternatively you could leave the router where it is and connect the pc and laptop wirelessly. You will need a wireless adapter for both. Thirdly you could connect all devices physically, you will have wires trailing around the house.Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Oh no!! right let me get this straight... The downstairs computer that I am using now connected to the broardband is the computer I should be installing the router to... I unplug the silver thing with speedtouch and 2 green lights that tesco sent me and put the router in it's place.. then i install the disc and install it... then the laptop unstairs will pick up on this router even though it's not connected to it..... have i got it????0 -

Right this is what i don't understand... so I have to purchase these or are they built into the laptop???0 -
Most modern laptops do (some don't) but if yours is old it is unlikely. If not you will have to buy one. Nowadays you can get a usb dongle or if you have a pc card slot on your laptop you can get one that fits in there. You usually need to run a set up with them.Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.
