Who said installing wireless was simple!!!! can anyone help please??

Options
I have a dell computer downstairs with tesco BB 2.2 MBps connected. I have never had probelms.

The old laptop we used to have has been placed upstairs.. I have purchased a Actiontec, DSL gateway 54 mbps wireless.

I have placed the disc that come with it and talks you through the installation in the laptop...
I have as instructed plugged i the wireless box to a powerpoint.. the powerlight is showing green....

then have connected the lead it told me to from the ethernet point on the computer to the point on the wireless box...

I have then as instructed placed the filter it supplied (it has Linkcom LAfoo26) on the side into the phone socket.

I have then plugged in the wire into the phone socket and the other end of said wire into the wireless box... at that point the DSL light was flashing.. it said this should stop in 1 minute but it has just carried on...

I already had a filter connected in that phone socket anyway so instead of the one they supplied i put my old one back which says ADSL on the side to see if that would work but it keeps flashing...

So with that still flashing I still carried on with the process as next it asked me for my ISP username and password which I provided at which point it said the installation had been unsuccessful and to start again..

I am not techincal at all... do I need to call someone in to fix it so can anyone suggest anything to help me please???

(oh and incase it makes a difference I have a second sky box connected to the phone socket in the room but I disconnected it from the start of the installation)

Are you using a DSL router like this?

If so, that is for cable and not ADSL.

    ;)

Sorry espresso but that router should be fine for dsl.

Just how many things have you got plugged into you phone sockets in the house?

Can you browse to the setup screen of the router instead of using the setup wizard?

Open your web browser of choice to do this and type in the ip address of your router. Usually 192.168.1.1

Check through your manual and see which menu choice/tab you go to to check whether or not the wizard input your user name and password and all the other options govin in your manual.

If it did look for a button marked connect click on it and see what happens.

I would say though my first impression is that the routers !!!!!!ed. I would never ever purchase things like that off ebay , they are not much cheaper than if you go to somewhere like dabs.com anyway and buy a decent make like 3com etc.

I'm asking about things actually plugged into your boxes because you are only allowed so many of them - I'm not entirely sure this affects DSL but I do know it does affect digital phones:
Paste this link here to read up on it

Do you know the ip of your router?

It shouldn't be a problem if all your items are externally powerd as they have low REN values but if you have a few traditional phones pluged in it could become an issue. I doubt it but itds always worth checking first.

Assuming that the router is suitable, all that you have set up so far, is your user name and password. You could try looking at some of the other settings in the routers configuration window. Does Tesco have a support page?

I believe that Tesco use NTL like Virgin, who's settings are given as:

IP addressing: dynamic assigned IP address
    VPI: 0
    VCI: 38
    Connection type: PPPoA
    Encapsulation: VC-MUX
    Authentication method: CHAP

    Worth a look anyway!

    Just read your last post.

You are only trying to connect one device (modem/router) to your line at any one time aren't you?
