Digital aerial installation quotes.

Not sure if this should be in this section or local money saving so please move accordingly.

In the house at present the lounge hd ready lcd tv with integrated freeview is set up using Virgin media and the tv's in each bedroom (3) are all lcd hd ready integrated freeview sets currently using set top aerials so cant pick up all channels.

AFAIK i have an aerial socket point in the lounge but have no idea if this is connected up to any wires. We are looking into getting people round to install a digital aerial with four spurs of it to use all tv's.

I appreciate this is something that you can do yourself reasonably cheap however my partner is disabled so will not be climbing any ladders to attempt it.

Does anyone know what kind of price i should be looking at paying for this work to be carried out?

Not sure if this is useful or useless information but we live in a mid terrace 3 bed house.

If you need any other info please ask.

Where does the wire from the lounge socket go to then? Follow it through. Might be worth plugging a TV in to check, you may already have a loft aerial installed.

The wire goes into the loft, there is no aerial as the first thing i did when i moved in here 3years ago was hook up the old tv to find out.

Think because at somepoint one was installed the housing association just replaced the face plate on wall to make it look good.

So all you need to do is have the cable rerouted onto the roof and add an aerial there.

I know i will need an aerial, cabling etc but the initial question was how much should i be looking at quotation wise, advert seen for a bloke coming out on friday says from £69. My dad paid £170 for a bloke to do his and there are several people going through consumer direct because of his workmanship. I just want to be cautious.

It totally depends on the height and access etc. Typically anything from £80 to £150 depending on that and where you live. This is for a single feed. If you want 4 feeds then obviously you will need a splitter and an amplifier and the cost will be much higher.

Or if you wanna be a cheapskate buy the aerial yourself and put it up in the roofspace and see if the reception is good enough...

There's no such thing as a "digital" aerial. You need an aerial that is suitable for receiving Freeview transmissions satisfactorily *after switchover*. That won't necessarily be a "wideband" aerial and won't necessarily be what you need to receive Freeview right now. So do some research to make sure you won't be ripped off!

Spot on Moneymaker! There are numerous ladder monkeys out there ready to con you. That isn't to say that there are not decent installers too. Use recommendations, or check the CAI website, where you will at least have some comeback should things go wrong. http://www.cai.org.uk/
