got my laptop yesterday from Dell outlet. really pleased with it.
in the spec it said it had a 40GB hard drive, which it has got, but its also got another 14GB drive which wasnt on the spec? not bad?

No expert on these things but as far as I know you can't physically fit more than one hard drive in a laptop so chances are your hard drive has been partitioned by software so it 'looks' like you have two drives.

Think just the £339 deal is best, though upgrading the battery seems good value at about £10 extra. Dell are pricy for other upgrades but if you think 40gb HDD is not going to be enough will be less hassle to upgrade it now rather than later. 40gb should be good enough for most users I would have thought? It is not a gaming machine and not much else takes up a lot of disc space, media files can always be simply backed up onto dvd's.

Thanks .... Ok, here's what I did! I called dell and told them I wanted the laptop, but not the dvd writer (already have an external one) and I was told they can't downgrade standard laptops especially this one, as it is being phased out (update will be out in a few months she said). I was offered the same spec laptop with a cd writer and extra 256mb ram for an extra £20 ... is that good?

She said it was not available online though ... so I will miss out on cashback icon9.gif

forgot to add, although a dvd writer is better than a cd writer/dvd player wouldn't it cost me more than £20 to buy 256 mb ram?

512MB of ram is £25.99 here:

Cashback from Quidco is 3% ?, so £9 or so - therefore you can get double the ram by spending an extra £17 (£26 less the £9 Quidco cashback) on upgrade ram from Lowestonweb rather than Dell and getting the laptop online for your cashback. It's useful to have an internal dvd writer anyway if you want to take the laptop anywhere...

Sounds fine for normal home use and at a good price. This is the Ford Focus of laptops ... but if you need a Ferrari then this is probably not for you ;)

LOL I don't like Ferrari's :D My desktop (that I killed!) was a 1.8 I believe, and that was ok ... will this be much slower?

I am playing with the dell site at the moment and can get the more powerful battery (6 cell - not even sure that is worth it .. anyone know how long it would last??) and 1.6ghz for £375, add to that the the cost of the extra 512mb ram ... would be under £400 (including th cashback!)

Arrrgghh! I am quiet angry with myself for being so indecisive!!!! I wanna spend £339 ... but I wanna sports Ford Focus I guess LOL !!
