Is it just me or is the laptop intollerably slow with 256mb ram - even with all the dell crap removed. I don't know if it is the norton I installed or the laptop itself.

It is Norton, without a doubt.

My 1300 flies even with 256mb RAM.

OK, I think I will take norton off in that case. What antivirus do you suggest I should get?

I use F-Prot on my Desktop and its good, although its not legally free ;)

AVG is supposedly quite good, and free :D

I put AVG on and it is noticeably faster. I am also hoping to add an extra 512 ram to bring it up to 768mb as this will become my main computer.

I'm going to add another 512 to mine as well in the near future, RAM usage gets pretty high with only 256.

Wish it was still £25.99 though, £28.34 now

When playing back DVD's on my Inspiron 1300 15" Widescreen, the video is not full screen - there is a very large gap both at the top and the sides of the screen.

I understand that the image will only be as large as the aspect ratio allows - but surely this should only stop when either the top or side of the image meets the edge of the screen.

I have tried the dell DVD player, Windows media player and cyberlink power DVD.

    Thanks

You can change the settings in Power DVD to fill the screen. Don't ask me how though, but I have done it, and it works :D

Feel stupid now - it was the DVD i was testing with , for some reason that disc wouldn't play full screen, but others will.

    Doh!
