The e-value code brings up a specific offer from Dell the spec can then be adjusted to match your needs. Its better to find the one closest to your requirement as adding options tend to be more expensive.
On these threads most people just quote the second half of the code as this relates to the specification. The first half relates to the source of the promotion. So you will have two boxes to fill in. In the first '1' will suffice in the second box put the code that looks like 'N03135b' NB the format is one letter and 5 digits followed by optional letter. i.e. the second character is a zero.

Undo a flap on base of the laptop and plug in. Laptop recognises extra memory on power up. 5-10 minutes tops.

Why don't you try dell outlet? More computers are added every hour every day, just wait til you see one with the spec you want. I bout a dell desktop over a year ago which i have been extremely pleased with, and have just ordered a new laptop from the outlet.

    I just bought this:
    • Pentium M740 1.73GHz
    • 1024MB RAM, L2 cache, 533MHz FSB
    • 60GB HD
    • DVDR
    • Wireless card
    • 6 Cell 53Whr battery
    • 15.4" WXGA (1280x800) LCD panel
    • Windows XP Home SP2
    for £462.82+VAT

I think thats a good deal?

Dell didnt install much rubbish on my machine, all that they installed was Dell Support, which does come in handy from time to time.
Usually they install trial versions of a whole load of programs such as McAfee anti-virus, Ulead Photo Explorer, Paint Shop Pro, Internet Service Providers "special offers" etc. etc.
The Value code keeps being rejected, what's it supposed to do?
It's easiest to copy and paste the code rather than typing it yourself, as it's easy to be confused as to whether the 2nd digit is supposed to be number 0 or letter O
Thanks to all who post constructively.

does anyone know if the dells that dont have wifi come with the aerials built in so you can just connect a pcimini card?
  • Perhaps I'm being very dim but what is the difference between this and (N04131a) Inspiron 1300 with a 15in screen which comes at
    £327.83 Includes VAT & Shipping
edit I was being dim it's the dvd/rw and the Wireless mini PCI card.

Don't they both have the the Wireless mini PCI card?

Otherwise they look identical (apart from the dvd/rw on the 4135b) and the price: N04135b is about £10 more (for which you get the dvd/rw).

    With battery upgrade I get:
    (N04135b) Inspiron 1300 £350.75
    (N04131) Inspiron 1300 £339.58
