  • Mine's not working

Only because it's still in it's box on the dining room table :D

Been up at Big Momma Shaboo's trying to set her's up to connect to her Wanadoo Livebox but it's having none of it.

Don't suppose anyone's done it already and has any tips?

Been a long hard week at work so mine's staying in the box until tomorrow at least.

All the restore files should be in the Dell directory on C: drive.

Just do a windows search for Dell from the start menu.

All I found in there was a nice utility that offered to delete my restore partition

Although I think hidden/system files are turned off, shouldve really turned em on but forgot.

You can burn the restore disk directly from the image which you can find at C:\dell\MEDIAEXE\Media.iso
I'm not sure if the sonic software will burn images or not as I uninstalled it pretty much straight away and installed Nero, but if you do a Google search there are plenty of free utilities that will let you burn/ extract an iso image
    HTH

I dont have the PC yet but the order confirmation says it has "roxio Mydvd basic" included which is cd/dvd burning software. This is on a machine with the DVD writer option.

Also, I paid the extra £5 option to get the genuine windows XP CD included.

Can't remember what it said but my mum's box had a blue card in it shaped like a CD that I thought had instructions on about how to burn the back-up/restore disc.

    Have a look see maybe?

That Dell CD card just states about the dell system restore option. Definately no option to burn restore cd on this batch.

Probably won't be a problem - sure dell would sell you a cd at £5.88 if you nag enough, or pick one up off ebay - or just rely on the DSR option.

I have an XP CD from and earlier pc purchase - that will do same job. As you were all posting before this laptop delivery today maybe you have an XP from your other pc that will serve as your backup if it is ever needed?

My only other XP Home CD is from 2001, has no service packs installed as default.

Been informed that this will not worth with the SP2 key that is attached to the bottom of my laptop :(

Ah well, there are other ways to obtain Windows I guess
