Have recently relocated with DH, started a job however this job didn't work out (don't really want to go into the ins and outs of it) so currently out of work looking for something, anything!
Started applying for jobs last Monday, have had a few interviews but nothing really to write home about yet. Was disappointed with the one as the interview didn't involve asking me any questions about my abilities or anything, the interviewer just spent most of the time moaning about other applicants not turning up and then I received a rejection email yesterday....so have followed this up and asked for feedback.
Have got a second interview lined up on Tuesday for a role I would really like, it's only 25 hours per week but better than nothing. Also off to pick up an application form to be a Room Attendant in a hotel....again part time and not my usual line of work but still a positive move in the right direction.
Registered with a few agencies, one might have two days work next week for me just doing a bit of 'meet and greet' so fingers crossed for that one.
Other than applying for jobs and attending interviews, I have also been exploring the area by going for long walks and seeing how long it would take to get me places.
Hello Bunnie!
Good luck with everything. I am trying out for things I don't usually do as well, and I also go for long walks to keep fit! Best of luck, and as for you being willing to try new things I know how it feels. Hope you will keep us updated. I know what you mean about bad interviewers and having them moan on about people - I had one of those this morning but just let him talk till he ran out of steam! Best of luck xxx
Hi to our stalwarts Sackcloth and Scrooge and hoping you are ok0 -
I am so pleased for you Rosered. A few irons in different fires is very invigorating and stops you feeling like a corporate slave, or being dependent on any one organisation for security.
So sorry about Manpower Medini. I would be inclined to keep fighting the decision for a bit longer, as suggested.
Well done Lufcgirl and welcome Bunnie.
Well, I have been cutting back on my time spent on internet, and focussing on my business and have another two new businesses who would like me to work for them.
I Feel like I have finally got to where I want to be, with income which will now comfortably cover expenditure.
All the best everyone, on the journey. Funny, how often you don't end up where you thought you'd be, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.0 -
Brilliant news Scrooge!
Thanks for your kind words about my little job - totally agree with you - I want at least 3 things going at the same time so that if one goes wrong, I still have the other 2. I have two now - only one more thing to go!Lots of love Scrooge - so pleased for you, and amen to not being a corporate drone!

Hi Louise - I know how you feel. Try to be nice to yourself and do something fun to take your mind off it, if you can, and look forward to hearing how it goes.0

Ive got the feeling that my referencing has not worked out, and thats maybe why I have not heard from them. Ill be so gutted if that is the case, but at least I will know either way instead of just waiting by the phone. I dont know what ill do if I have not got it0 -
I think its sick that certain companies and agencys will not contact people when the ref fails but the job has been offered, it shouldn't be up to the person to phone up and find out. In my case I heard nothing for a week and a half after my ref failed and that was only because I phoned and asked. If I hadent it would have been possible for me to actuially turn up for my start date only to find i didn't have it then!
Today I am going to get the bus into town and go to the new Aldi to see what the fruit and veg is like.0 -

Why not ring them to find out? How long have you waited for notification after your interview, if its more than a week then I hate to say that you need to forget it - decisions are made quickly and candidates are offered jobs equally quickly, references are normally sought afterwards. Ring them and find out and if you didnt get the job ask for feedback as to why. Good luck with your job search though (and if you didnt get the job - think of it as their loss, you are obviously destined for better things).
I have been recuperating this week after eye surgery last Thursday - yesterday I actually spent some time making appointments (the kind that I can get to by bus as I am not up to driving yet). I touched base with an ex fellow wedding planning student who has now set up her own business - she is on the other side of Birmingham to me but we are pooling our resources and contacts - I am meeting her the week after next and then I contacted a potential supplier who had to cancel a meeting at short notice but has been too busy to call - so I am meeting him the week after next too:cool:
I finished my final assignment and submitted it prior to going into hospital but my tutor is on holiday until the end of the month when it will be marked so next month sometime I shall be getting my own diploma in wedding planning:cool:0 -
I was offered the job two days after the assessment day, this was last week in June and when I emailed last week, the person I am dealing with said they had not received the referencing report back from experian yet, but that he would get back to me asap. A week later, and I have still not heard anything so I have just emailed him again. I know it seems like I am pestering him, but I am so paranoid and just have to know either way.
I actually cant believe that there are some companies who would not let a candidate know if for whatever reason their referencing has not worked out. That is a bloody horrible way to treat people. Surely that is (amongst other things) what HR staff are paid for? I really feel for you, Medici - I get the feeling I will be joining you soon enough.0 -
Hope everyone is well today and having a good day.
After a pretty down morning had a little bit of positive news, got 2 days work through the agency next week, it's not the most thrilling job but it gets me out of the house and mixing with people.
Medini, that is really bad of Manpower, especially considering they are an agency, you would have thought they would be a bit more accommodating with references.0
