Hello All, how you doin'?? It's all been very quiet here, just counting the days until I start my new job. But I'm still doing good deeds and walking the dogs as much as possible. And I still need a haircut... lol!!Passing it on 24/7... while wearing stylish and confidence building heels!

Hey all, and congratulations Sackcloth!
I found out I was successful in interview for Administrative Officer for the DWP, but I'm on a waiting list so could be quite a while before I find out a start date yet. Have another interview tomorrow for a job starting on Monday, so I hope I do well in that!
Other than that, not been doing much...had my weekend away and applied for the same job four times over as there was four different adverts with four different sets of hours. Unsure if it'll make me seem mentally instable or just keen!
Hope everyone else is ok.0 -
Hello everyone - well I have been feeling very ill for the past few days, today being maybe the worst - I just feel totally sick. Nevermind! I am also worried that the job I was offered has fallen through for some reason - I was meant to hear from the man who has been dealing with it and I haven't as yet - paranoid, eh?
Hope everyone is well.0 -
Hello all!! It's the end of another week... :j
lufcgirl: congratulations to you too!!! :T At least you have some positive things to look forward to. Try and relax over the weekend and good luck on Monday.
louise: sorry to hear that you've been unwell. It's probably the stress of everything. I know that a couple of weeks ago, before I got the job, I was really really stressed and was so ill I couldn't actually think straight. And my body was really not working too well either. I had to force myself to go out and about and try not to worry. It's not easy, but just give yourself a bit of a break. As for the confirmation, they do take time so if it's been more than a week, I'd call or email just to remind the guy that you are keen and looking forward to starting. You could always ask what time you need to be there and if there's any additional information they need on your first day?
Everyone else: an up and down week for the Sackcloth family as no. 2 child has got a part time job (yippee) for the summer and no. 1 child is signing on. OH is still a bit down but I'm hoping that once I get to work I will churn up the energy in the house and get everyone motivated.
Stay strong and have a good weekend my little thread-buddies.
Sackcloth.
PS. All news is good news... :rolleyes:Passing it on 24/7... while wearing stylish and confidence building heels!

I hope everyone has a nice weekend and a productive job hunting week next week. I've been having to look after my bf this week as he has had some surgery to fix his Anterior Cruciate Ligament. He has to keep his leg in a brace for most of the time, isn't allowed to bend his knee and is on pain killers that could knock out a horse. Its worked out quite well that I'm off at the moment because I don't think he could manage by himself.0

Hello everyone! :hello:
Sorry not to have kept in touch with you this week - I have had a strange germ which consists of a very sore throat and a black mood!
Feeling better now. We have had mad thunder and lightening and monson conditions out here in the country this week. At least my vegeatbles seem to like the rain!
I never heard back from the charity bookshop people despite leaving many nice and informative messages for them! I guess the position was filled and they don't want to waste money ringing people back. What it does mean tho, is that it puts you off the organisation - I will never go into their new bookshop after that. Is that just me? It has soured my feelings towards that charity.
I have had many more applications/calls etc being ignored this week - maybe that's just the way it is now. It wasn't like that the last time I was unemployed - 16 years ago. I am now reaching desperation point money -wise. Time to just get any job I can to pull some money in, and develop my self employment ideas while working? My gut feeling tho, tells me that as a 45 year old, if I take a manual or low level job now, it might murder my career forever.I just don't know what to do.
Sackcloth - big congratulations to you! I am so, so pleased for you! :j :kisses:
Scrooge - your flexibile way of working and doing several things at once seems to be a brilliant idea to me. If I could pull in £1000 a month I would be delighted! If one thing doesn't work out - you have all the others! Well done on your guts and drive.
Medini - - my husband had the exact same injury last summer. It took him over 9 months to get completely better - I remember the first time he could run again - he was so pleased - like a skipping gazelle!
Louise - hope you have heard back from that job.
I hope I haven't missed anyone - my broadband isn't too good - the thunder seems to knock it on and off. So I might have missed a post.
Love to all and hoping you have a great weekend.

Gd morning guys, I'm sorry to say that I have a bit of bad news.
I had been waiting for over a week to receive my contract from manpower, on tuesday I phoned them to find out wht, and was told to call back the next day when the person I had to speak to was in.
Apparantly they have decided to withdraw my offer on the grounds that one of my refererences wasn't good enough. When I asked which one I was told it was the one from Reed. I then contacted Reed who told me they 'couldn't have possibly given me a bad refererence' as they only confirm the dates I worked for them not what I acted like whilst working for them. When I argued that this made me look like a bad employee they said I should get the other angency to phone them and they would explain all. I then called manpower back who refused to speak to Reed even though I said a dated reference was company policy rather than sign of anything else, they refused as they couldn't change their mind once something had already been decided.
Its taken me nearly 24 hours to be able to calm down enough to post this. I spent most of yesterday in tears. I really needed that job, we are really starting to struggle with bills at the moment and my boyfriend is only gets 4 weeks full sick pay, so after that if he still needs to stay off he is going to feel like he has to go back to work to stop us having everything cut off.0 -
Medini - That is absolutely shocking with Manpowe. Have you contacted their head office to try taking it up with them?
With regards to me, everything seems to be going right! I got offered the position at the DWP (obviously it'd be months before a post is offered), got a call on Sunday offering me a job to start (yesterday) for a company in Northern Ireland, and today I contacted Vodafone who I've been chasing for a job for 9 months in the Republic of Ireland and I got an interview! I'm absolutely delighted at the way things are going.
I had to turn the job down in Northern Ireland as I couldn't move in three days, and so they're calling me back in two weeks to give me a different start date if I still want it. Vodafone is what I want though, walking distance from where I'd be living and I'd love it!0 -
Hi everyone!
Sorry to hear about that Medini. Couldn't you provide them with an additional reference from another employer just to back up your application - or a personal/character reference?
I had an interview this morning and got the job, subject to security vetting (its in retail but working in a barracks. I'm happy. Its 20 hours a week and I can do my other stuff at the same time. Hope everyone is well
Well done Lucfgirl!0 -
Hi everyone, hope you all don't mind me joining in on the thread but could do with a bit of support.
Have recently relocated with DH, started a job however this job didn't work out (don't really want to go into the ins and outs of it) so currently out of work looking for something, anything!
Started applying for jobs last Monday, have had a few interviews but nothing really to write home about yet. Was disappointed with the one as the interview didn't involve asking me any questions about my abilities or anything, the interviewer just spent most of the time moaning about other applicants not turning up and then I received a rejection email yesterday....so have followed this up and asked for feedback.
Have got a second interview lined up on Tuesday for a role I would really like, it's only 25 hours per week but better than nothing. Also off to pick up an application form to be a Room Attendant in a hotel....again part time and not my usual line of work but still a positive move in the right direction.
Registered with a few agencies, one might have two days work next week for me just doing a bit of 'meet and greet' so fingers crossed for that one.
Other than applying for jobs and attending interviews, I have also been exploring the area by going for long walks and seeing how long it would take to get me places.0
