Man Utd Membership - what a rip off

Wanted to get tickets to see Man Utd v Arsenal at end of August. The site has been saying for a few weeks that tickets go on sale today.
So I log on to the site to try and purchase 3 tickets. It wouldn't let me without purchasing the membership at £30. So I paid the £30, only to then be told by the website that tickets were not on sale!
I phoned them up to see what the problem was and was told on the phone that the website was wrong, tickets go on sale 4-6 weeks before the fixture, so those tickets wont be on sale for another 3 weeks or so.
I was also told that 1 membership of £30 allows you to apply for 1 ticket only. And you cant simply "purchase" the ticket, you go into a draw and see if your name is picked out of the hat.
How can they justify charging £30 without telling you that you have no chance whatsoever and no guarantees of actually being able to purchase tickets.
As a fan of so many years, you would expect them to treat us all a little better than that. This is the first match we would have ever seen live at the stadium, we have never had the time or money to go to Old Trafford, so this would be our first opportunity to see them other than on a TV screen.
Very very disappointed.

Welcome to the 'Greed is Good' Premier League, led by Manchester United.
Carling Cup or a Champions league game against Partizan Belgrade is your best chance of getting a ticket.
Other than supporting your local team of course. It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0 -
I have seen match tickets for sale on ticketmaster before I think...at least that way you are guaranteed tickets if you purchase through them...0

But what if one of the 'big 4' is your local team? My bf has lived in Islington his whole life and supports Arsenal. But he and other local fans don't get a chance of a ticket. It is sad that footy is supposedly a working class game, but working class people cannot see their teams live and can only see them on TV, and that's only if they can afford an expensive Sky Sports package. I don't even like footy but he does and is passionate about it, and I think big teams should value their fans more.0 -
What a cheek!!!! Get them to refund your membership immediately. Tut. I'm a Man U fan too and am just horrified that 's what you have to go through to get tickets!!
Perhaps you could get some (albeit more expensive) tickets here? http://www.getmein.com/premiership/manchester-united-tickets.html
Have used that website before buying festival tickets and was v pleased.I love surprises!0 -
Man Utd (or any of the top clubs) don't give a stuff about their fans. If they can see a way to extract more money out of them, they will do it. The real fans have to be content with a TV screen which is sad and unfair but a fact of life these days.0

To be fair to the OP, he lives in Kent so he does live nearer to Old Trafford than most Man U fans.0

I don't think the needing the Man U membership to buy tickets is a new thing - I know when my husband used to go to to Trafford a couple of years ago he had to take out the yearly membership.0

Speaking as a Man U fan, I would agree its extortionate, I cant say I would be fan enough to buy into a membership, and pay X amount to watch a match. I'm not even prepared to pay per view to watch a match.
However, so long as people are prepared to pay such prices, the seats will all get filled regardless, they will continue to charge such outrageous prices safe in the knowledge that they will still get sold for such a price.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I'd see if Gillingham are at home on the opening day of the season, failing that Charlton, Palace or Millwall."An arrogant and self-righteous Guardian reading tvv@t".
