Just wanted to shadow everyone elses feelings; what an inspiration!

I dont have much experience about life cover for your morgage but from another persons POV all I would say is make sure you are getting the cover you NEED for the BEST price. Do you regularly compare quotes?

Otherwise best of luck to you, I have subscribed and look forward to hearing all about your df adventures :)

    Hi there,

I like the idea of your goal board. Will pinch that one :p. All the best on your debt free journey.

I can appreciate the insurance dilemma. I have always urged on the side of caution though, with insurance. I pay a substantial amount for £30,000 of critical illness cover and £100,000 of life cover for both my husband and I, on the grounds of strong family history of cancer, heart disease etc. It is a 25 year term insurance (As in your case, it would be impossible now to get anything like it for the price we pay). I frequently look at the figure and debate cancelling it, but can't bring myself to.

I was also very grateful last year for a redundancy insurance i'd taken out years ago. It paid out a regular income when I was most in need.
I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.

S*ds law says that the day after you cancel your insurance, you have a big fall......

I would say keep the insurance - for peace of mind. You can probably make cutbacks elsewhere in your SOA....chipping a £ here and a £ there to cover the difference in cost.

If you cancel the insurance, and then decide next year to re-do it, you may end up paying much more each month and it would have been a false economy.

That doesn't stop you looking for cheaper premiums for the level of cover you want - and go through quidco.....some providers pay very good levels of cashback if you are able to find a reasonable level of cover on there.

Hello and Welcome to the Diary Forum.

I echo what Hypno says about the insurance......

Your husband's passing is a massive event and naturally, everything else that has ever happened, will naturally be categorised as being before or after.

You and your DD have each other and together you are still a team. You are making great progress on your money situation. The sooner you start to review and amend your spending the sooner you will reap the rewards. Well done.

I shall pop in now and again to say hi and to see how things are going.

  • Thanks for your advice. I heed what you say and will keep it so thats that solved. Am looking at others expenses to cut back and will keep you posted as I go! Two massive achievements since my last entry. First, I phoned the bank! Yes, felt really good about that. They have told me the address to write to re claiming bank charges. So, that is now on my list to do this week. Maybe £300 or so over 6 years, but thats still £300! Secondly, had a day with my family yesterday and my dear sister is going to help me set myself up on Ebay. Removes the stress of the thought of doing it, and I can remain focused on DD and working. We worked Saturday, couldn't fit it all in last week. My DD is so good, she sits in the back of the car telling me we are going to get lots of money, aren't we mummy?!! Yes DD, we are and yes we will be at the beach v soon, when we've finished!!!..

Anyone seen the film, In the Pursuit Of Happyness starring Will Smith. We have the DVD and we watched it last night. Such a fantastic film, inspirational. It reminds me of me and DD. Sometimes feels like 2 steps forward and 3 steps back, feeling like I'm working doubly hard to get the most basic things accomplished, yet the thing is to never give up. Keep hold off your dream/goal, and it can happen. Just a fantastic film, has set me up for the week. With that, better get on, have a busy day today! Take care.

Hurrah for achievements - big or small :T

I agree with the film, I've only seen it once, but it is def a feel good film! Good luck with ebay - I dip in and out of it a bit, and could (and should) do more, but there are loads of people on MSE who ebay like crazy, so if you ever need advice or a bit of a helping hand, I am sure there are plenty of people here who can help with some wise words!

  • Thanks for your encouragement! you have to laugh at the irony of one my earlier posts!Today saw me fall over, the first fall in a couple of years or so, Im sitting here and my left knee is looking sore, my good arm feels a bit stiff I think from where I tried to break my fall and my DD has had a great time since I picked her up from school playing nurses! I have to say she has made my knee the cleanest knee ever with her blotting it with tissue! And telling me off for not being more careful! You have to smile! It's not that dreadful, just knocks it out of you a bit, didn't get everything done that I wanted to re work because of it, am just about to get the supper sorted, and then have some bus tel calls to do , and then I think I will have an early night. Am all sorted for the bills pending during the rest of this week, so thats ok. Will be doing my anaylsis of how things are going finanially in terms of reducing my debts this weekend. May even sum up the confidence to detail the scale of it all on here!! Things are v positive in my business, lots on the verge of happening, just want them to happen! which will help the stability and growth of it so do not want to lose the momentum or my focus in reaching my goals. So, on that note will now get on with the task in hand!.. Take care

Yes, I love your title, positive and focussed. I completely agree, we can all reach our dreams and our goals if we just keep plugging away. It's so easy to hit obstacles and bounce backwards, just to have to start all over again weeks down the line. If we just picked ourselves up again and kept going regardless, i'm sure the journey would be a lot less frustrating. I've still got to alot to learn so will be watching your diary with interest.
