Whitewing, I'm really glad the others are taking the news well. I'll send as much of that magic dust as I can find to enable you to do all the things you want to do :D

Yep, the right one appears to be fine.

When they thought the left one was dead they were keen to remove it while she was young - apparently leaving it could have lead to problems with high blood pressure when she's older, but recovery from the operation is much quicker (and the op much shorter) the younger the patient is. DD wasn't keen, until I pointed out that (apart from the "what if she turns out to be a sports nut" issue), pregnancy often gives BP problems - so leaving the kidney in could have made that worse for her..... which is an issue she wouldn't have needed to address had GD been a GS instead :rolleyes2 The consultant seemed surprised I even thought of that (GD was about a year old at the time), but agreed that was certainly an issue.

But now they know it works - albeit not as well as it could - they're reluctant to remove, at least partly just in case she ever has problems with the other (general medical or as the result of an accident).

DD takes me along to all the tests and consultations, as I seem to pick up on things she doesn't (such as the above issue). She reckons that's down to 'experience', but I personally think it's more the 'being one step away' - and any final decision not being mine to make, so I just help her by making sure she has all the facts and acting as a sounding board (which I can't do without being fully in the picture myself).

But while the op may not have been the resounding success they'd hoped for, GD certainly has a lot less infections now. At one point I was running them to an out-of-hour doctors or A&E every 3 or 4 months, but I think it's only been one visit to her regular GP since the operation.

Argggh! Just tried to do a transfer from my current a/c to my Dad, who paid for some car parts in cash for me last weekend (they refused to take a cheque!). I couldn't set up a new payment to him, so decided to move the money to my old current a/c and transfer from there. I didn't spot that I'd sent it to the wrong (already closed) a/c until it was too late. Rang the bank within a few mins but they said it was already gone, and that it could take 2 weeks or more to bounce back. So that's £120 now vanished somewhere...

  • Bails-Good luck with the letter. Great news about the voluntary work too.
Lynda-Hope you sort out the banking. Could you tell me which post your recipe is on? Thanks-Found it!
Cheryl-Your GD sounds very brave, which is often the case when children have had a condition all their lives. They often put us adults to shame with their bravery and positive attitude. x
Whitewing-Glad your MIL and Auntie loved your news.
Smlsave-I also felt I'd lost financial control when we were sorting the move out. Hard to not do when something else major is going on. Sounds like your wedding plans are coming along well.
Mama67-Your housemartins sound so sweet. We also have them nesting in our hamlet.

Hello to everyone and congratulations Whitewing! I hope it all goes well. Last time we told folk really early too, some didn't aprove but it shouldn't matter as it doesn't change what's meant to be. Hope your luck rubs off and we're lucky soon again too. Keep your fingers crossed.

Not much to report. But it looks as this month's budget is going much better than the last couple of months and the savings are growing nicely, especially as I sent just another Am@z0n sale off for £80.

Hey guys, not been on here for a while. hope everyone is good. Congratulations Whitewing on your good news.

Bails, great about the voluntary work and possible school job, all sounds very interesting.

Not much to report really, am still keeping up with the challenge and recording spends. Spends are low as always and so i am just plodding along. I have at least half of my money left so feel i am doing ok, although what with the summer holidays coming and being off work till Sep, that will be perhaps where i spend more money!

    Hello to you all,

Not much to report, just plodding along and trying to watch my spends, I had a NSD today.

I got a good result with whoopsies last night, 18 hovis rolls for 3p! I kept 6, and gave 6 each to my brother and to mum, they were lovely and soft.

I've still got a carrot mountain in my freezer, so may attempt a carrot cake soon, and also some nice carrot soups.

I'm also going to try and make ginger beer, so will need to make sure that I have all the ingredients that I need.

There's so much I want to do, I will need to drag myself away from this computer.:D

    Speak soon, xx

Saw this job vacancy on another thread, and thought it would be perfect for one of us. (I don't mean this insultingly)

I saw that on another forum - and I must admit it immediately made me think it would be the ultimate in frugal living :rotfl:

If done properly there'd be no gas/electricity/oil. And food should all be home-grown or barted for with potions - with the potion ingredients all being items from nature ;)
