Try Siam Park in Tenerife, it seems steep at 28 euro a head but everything is free once inside and they have a beautiful man made beach and wave machine that changes speed every 20 minutes. Take your own towels and sunscreen though as these are expensive on site.

Don't get ripped off by reps if you are in staying in Playa de Las Americas, you don't need to get a cab just walk up past Palm Beach Club and its five minutes over a bridge by the main road. We heard one couple being told by a rep it was 10 euro in a cab!

And also NEVER go all inclusive to tenerife as breakfast is 3euro a pint can be as low as 1.50 and a three course dinner for 10Euro its cheaper to eat out.

I went to Siam Park in June, and its brilliant! But you DO need to take money to pay for the lockers, and also for the self-service cafe.

ps we found a bar selling a pint for 1 euro!
pps you dont even have to walk there, because there's a free bus which drives to Siam Park from various stops in Playa de las Americas and surrounding areas. We got on outside the "Best Tenerife" Hotel, just behind Parque Santiago III

If you go to AQUALAND in Maspalomas (it is fantastic) they do a special offer whereby you can book a second visit for just €6 per head. Also, if you go to their web site (aqualand.es) you can print off discount vouchers and also get a special deal on a visit to Palmitos Park (a must). Also look for their rep. in the arrivals hall at Gran Canaria airport who will give you discount vouchers for both venues... make sure he gives you enough for the whole family though!

If you want to go to Puerto de Mogan in Gran Canaria for a day trip then you can get free transport.

As long as you book the Yellow Submarine excursion, they will take you there and back free of charge.

Ask you hotel reception for details.

If you want free entertainment that will keep you amused all night long then try "Sparkle's Show Bar" and "Rikkie's Cabaret Bar" in the Yumbo Centrum in Playa del Ingles (Gran Canaria).

If you are having trouble finding cheap flights then think about connecting in Madrid, Barcelona or Alicante.

You can fly there on the UK low cost airlines for next to nothing, enjoy a break to stretch your legs and do a bit of shopping and then connect through to the Canaries on IBERIA, AirEuropa, ClickAir or SpanAir at great prices.

If your holiday package includes an airport to resort transfer then DO NOT pre-book your car hire from home.

The local independent companies will do car hire from as little as €14 per day if you book it locally in Gran Canaria.

Obviously if you do not have airport transfers then the saving may be cancelled out by the cost of getting to and from the airport though.

Most car hire has a HUGE excess of up to £1000 on the standard CDW insurance policy. When you collect the car you will be asked if you want to insure this excess at additional cost (up to £10 per day) a good idea but .......

BEFORE you hire your car do a Google search and find one of the independent insurance copanies that do CDW excess insurance. It costs as little as £2.50 per day which adds up to a massive saving over several days car hire.

Many bars employ people who stand outside to persuade you to come in (they are called PRs). They will usually offer you a "free shot" with your first round of drinks.

RUBBISH....a free piddling little glass of cheap spirit! Don't be afraid of them, negotiate with them (especially you girls - they want you in the bar to attract in the guys). You should at least get your first round of drinks free and possibly your second too!

A bar with people in it attracts more punters. Just think what your presence is worth to them.

PLUS - don't be afraid to tell passers-by what a great time you are having. If you attract more people into the bar too you will be the PR's friend for life and will enjoy lots more free drinks for the rest of your holiday!
  • Found car hire was completely unnecessary in Playa del Ingles, Gran Canaria. Buses were frequent and cheap. In fact, they were almost the best thing about Playa del Ingles ~ but that's just our opinion.
