Alliance and Leicester Not Paying Out On Premier Direct Bank Account Offers

I am wondering if anybody has had problems collecting on either the £25 referral offer or £100 offer for moving all your direct debits, etc, to A&L after moving your bank account over to them - after fulfilling all the necessary requirements to collect on these of course?

Both these promotions have been live for some time and although we have fulfilled all the necessary requirements for the first one, neither I nor the person I referred have received a sous as yet, despite months of requests and promises by A&L that the money would be paid. I put a friend of mine onto these promotions and she joined A&L in November last year.

The person I referred thought they had done everything necessary to collect £100 for transferring their direct debits to the bank and depositing the correct amount of funds per month - but wad told that she did not qualify because the promotion was 'temporarily unavailable' when she applied for it, ie/ we were told the offer was suspended for a week whilst changes were made to it and this coincided with when she made her application. But this was only mentioned some months after first enquiring about receipt of the payment. I think this needs further investigating and so thought I would run this thread in the first instance.

I would be very interested to hear if others have had similar probs, as I have just made another call to A&L and they continue to give me the run around.

    A&L have two choices...

    1. Pay her the £100, or

    2. Face a case fee of £500 from the FOS, following complaint escalation.

    It should be a no-brainer for anyone in their complaints department.

    My husband and I have both received a letter today, AFTER Alliance & leicester have moved all the SO/DD/Pay etc to say they will not pay the £100 because we have old current accounts with the Abbey. At no point were we asked this question or told that we could not have an account with the Abbey. We will complain and then likely close any account we have with Abbey/Alliance & Leicester

    Mmmm i got a letter from them last week to say I wasn't getting £100 off them, then before I could ring up to complain I got another letter saying that letter was a mistake and they were looking in to it.

  • Hi Guys, just got the letter from A&L states "I did not qualify for the £100 reward....".

    Called the customer service and was told the letter was sent in error. HOWEVER, I still won't qualify!

    BECAUSE, I HAVE NO DIRECT DEBITS TO SWITCH! :confused:

    Only got standing orders on my old accounts. - my fault?

    The wording on the letter is " switch all direct debits and standing orders using our premier switching service within 11 weeks of opening the account. (If there is no direct debit to switch, the case incentive will not be paid)"

    I called in June after everything was switched and was told I will get the reward. No mention of this "no direct debit" issue.

    Don't remember this on their website. Got a print out of their web page back in May at work. So will double check on Monday...

    Got 3 weeks before the 11 weeks deadline to set up a DD and switch to A&L.... impossible!

    Anyone got the same problem?!:mad:

    Same here. I have been told they were looking into that matter but I don't believe them. I am going to put a complaint to the financial ombudsman.
    Advise everyone to do the same.

    The FOS won't entertain a complaint until you've exhausted the 8 week complaint process with A&L, and have either received a final response or no response at all.

    I have no problem with A&L and received £25 just yesterday.

    I get free travel insurance for depositing £500per month (which I take out a few days later).

    Well...I will watch out the small print next time more carefully... Not easy to make £100 nowadays.!? ;)

    The lady I spoke with @ A&L customer service confirmed "someone" will call me back within "48 hours" :think: after investigate the phone call I made in June as they confirmed during the call (this is after they done all the switch) that I will get the £100 reward within 4 months of account opening.

    BTW, the lady also told me "my salary has to be paid into the account in order to get the reward" -another catch?! :confused: Anyone know if this is in the small print?!

    To be honest, I got the halifax £5 reward current a/c deal, no problem at all with halifax.

    Guess, can't expect to get those current a/c deals every time. Teach me for not being so "switched on" about these small catches.:o

    I've had the same letter this morning, telling me that I don't qualify for the £100 and listing all the conditions, but as far as I can see, I DO meet all the listed conditions.
    So I will be making a phone call too!
