If I put pressure on a driver to unpack my stuff in 3 minutes say, would that be common courtesy? My point is that why rush anyone? Why don't tescos give extra time so everyone gets their shopping at the booked time. This way the customer doesn't feel rushed and the poor delivery driver doesn't feel as if he is racing against the clock.
If they employed 2 delivery drivers to do the work now allocated to 1 it would mean possibly better customer service and a step towards answering the unemployment crisis facing the country, if it means paying 1p extra for a tin of beans, what the hey, I wouldn't care.

I think the way you were told by the delivery driver was very rude - if he'd simply said he gets into trouble if he's behind with later deliveries I bet you would have got a wriggle on.
The problem is that if every person took twenty minutes to unpack, they'd only manage two deliveries an hour (including travel time). For your £5ish delivery charge you get at least half an hour of staff time for picking and putting the order through the till, half an hour of driver time, diesel and the cost of running the van ....
It would not be fair to put an extra penny on a tin of beans - that would mean every Tesco customer would be penalised for the delivery customers. I would suggest you try Asda as I find their customer service is far superior - any substitutions come in a separate bag so can be checked and refused, and if you need to ring/ e-mail afterwards about any missing or wrong item they refund without quibble and let you keep the item. :TDeclutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
I agree, if the driver said it the way he said it then he was extremely rude. He was probably annoyed because you had a large shop, or he had to go up loads of stairs or something to your door. While it isn't an excuse for his behaviour, it can be difficult for Tesco to monitor the attitude of its drivers when they are out and about. People may shout that they should just sack him, however he may appear more pleasant back at store and the management don't realise how rude he is. The best thing to do is complain about his attitude. Give the feedback so that they can do something about this driver and his bad attitude.0

im not sure about the delivery drivers but a friend of mine picks the food for the deliveries and she is ALWAYS in the office being warned her speed isn't good enough, they have little lights on their trolleys and you have to keep above a certain colour otherwise you can lose your job :O
so maybe your driver is under pressure from his boss, or he may only be paid for his basic hours wether he runs over or not so people who take 20 mins to unpack their shopping means he is late home every day for his family
if you are not in a hurry and have plenty of spare time then maybe go and pick your own shopping0 -

So are you saying that you consider it reasonable to ask a delivery person to wait whilst shopping is unpacked and put away? That was the point the OP was making, and that it would take 15/20 mins
Is it your idea of good manners to keep someone waiting at the door whilst you re- arrange the fridge and kitchen cupboards to accomodate the new shopping?
If they employed 2 delivery drivers to do the work now allocated to 1 it would mean possibly better customer service and a step towards answering the unemployment crisis facing the country, if it means paying 1p extra for a tin of beans, what the hey, I wouldn't care.
Assuming the delivery charge is based on one driver and the associated picking costs, an additional driver would add considerably more to the charge than 1p on a tin of beans. Maybe 25/30%.

To be honest, I think most people were incredulous that someone would actually consider it reasonable to do what the OP described, and complain that TESCO saw it differently.
Maybe the driver could have been more tactful, but maybe just maybe that he had had enough of standing on the doorstep week in, week out, whilst the OP took her time?
Maybe he was getting his pay docked, maybe he was being threatened with disciplinary proceedings if he didnt improve his delivery time?
All of the above are possible, indeed or probable.
Just as umpacking a large weekly shop in 6 minutes is emminently possible. I know as I do it every week.
As you said, .....My opinion, .....get over it:D0 -
I used to have both Sainsburys and Tesco deliver, and the procedure was that they would knock on the door, stack the boxes at the door whilst he went to get the rest, whilst I took the bags from the boxes and that was it! I never dreamed of checking it whilst driver was there - he was there to deliver and nothing else. Driver would inform me of any substitutions so I could refuse them, so I may have quickly looked into those bags, but nothing else and the whole process took no more than about 3 minutes!! I didn't realise that people actually unpacked the entire shop whilst the driver was there. NO wonder they have such limits on availability of delivery times!!
Once though I got a total bargain, as I was unpacking the shopping which he had left with me, and thought that I was going mad, as I thought that I had already unpacked a particular bag, and the next, and the next...... Tesco had very generously doubled up on my shopping - no word of a lie - I had two of everything I had ordered! I rang them incase they were planning to take the money out twice, as I had not ordered double, and they just said to keep it. They confirmed that they had only charged once. Never happened again though.0 -
Even if you are trying to check that everything is there, do it after he is gone. I have found items missing after the delivery guy has left (although that is rare) and had no problems getting a refund from the customer service line.
i have never had a problem with refunds. i never check whats in the bags at the time, we just unpack the boxes. i do check the invoice and ensure all bogofs are inc etc
5-6 minutes is always sufficient timeACII and Chartered so now I can focus on learning to play my beautiful Sax. 🎷0 -
When I expressed concern that 6 minutes wasn't really enough time we were told that the area manager had said "if customers don't like it they can go somewhere else".........
i wonder if terry leahy thinks if customers dont like it they can go somewhere else????
i work in customer services and if my manager thought like that he wouldnt be managing me because the company i work for would have sacked him for that attitudethings arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok

On a slightly different note: one person mentioned that they got a credit for something short dated? Last time I had a Tesco delivery a couple of weeks ago I discovered after the driver had gone had a bag of salad leaves with that days date on it. Tutted with disgust and then noticed that on the top of the order - near the substitutions - was a warning flag about short dated items.
I don't know why they imagine someone would want to eat a whole bag of salad in the two hours or so remaining of the day after the delivery, but by putting the warning flag I imagine you can't then complain if you didn't notice it.
In the past I have complained about the rubbish they sent - two or three times, and broken and leaky items. Clearly the drivers had been warned about me as they knew I had complained. I think we are supposed to accept milk with half of it gone and drowning your other stuff, and not say a word.
I have found Asda and Sainsburys to be superior for home deliveries but had to go back to Tescos as I am shopping for an elderly person who wants "tesco own brand" stuff. Grrrr.0 -

Are you complaining to the driver or to customer service?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
On the plus side discussing , we had a delivery on Thursday, he was friendly, chatty, helpful, funny - a really nice bloke. He offered to carry it in for us which we declined, the whole process was done very quickly and I find they pack bags properly (ie - all the same type of frozen together, all the fridge stuff together etc) so putting it away is easy.
Appreciated it so much I rang Sainsburys and thanked them and asked them to pass on our thank you too.
Whilst we haven't had a delivery from Asda since around Christmas our Asda always pack really atrociously and don't change the more you complain - we've had bags that are like:
4 tins of beans
1 glass bottle of mayo
1 variety bag of crisps
1 pack of baking potatoes
It was that reason that moved us almost full time to Sainsburys.0
