Tesco - the last straw!

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this but in our area (Norfolk) our local Tesco has started to clampdown on the time taken for each delivery. 6 minutes is what's allowed, which wasn't a problem for us as we were rotating our boxes which was lucky as we have six or seven boxes a week to unpack which takes about 15-20 minutes. Last week the driver warned us that they were clamping down on box rotation and this week we were told that we'd have to unpack it there and then. When I expressed concern that 6 minutes wasn't really enough time we were told that the area manager had said "if customers don't like it they can go somewhere else"......... I've been a Tesco.com customer since it started in my area so this isn't the first time I've experienced Tesco's lack of loyalty to regular customers. For me this is the last straw.... I have already started buying my meat products from the local butcher (they deliver too) so for all the other stuff, Asda here I come!!!

Why don't you just take everything out of the boxes first, just dump it all on the counters or floor, and then sort it out after he's gone? That's what I do and it takes no more than five minutes. Pack it away on your own time, not his (and the next, patiently waiting customers). We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0

I agree with Zenseeker, we carry everything inside out of the crates (He doesn't come in the house) and then sign our copy (Works the same with Asda, Sainsburys and Tesco who we've all had deliveries from) and then we go through it and mark bits off to ensure we got all the right offer combinations if things haven't been in stock/not missing anything as has happened before when he has gone.
Takes only a few minutes - and one of us has arthritus, the other has a dodgy heart - right pair of crocks we are...!0 -
Even if you are trying to check that everything is there, do it after he is gone. I have found items missing after the delivery guy has left (although that is rare) and had no problems getting a refund from the customer service line.We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0

Hi leonies and welcome to the forums.
I am astonished at how arrogant Tesco is becoming in terms of customer service, Asda seems to be following suit and for this reason I am shopping less and less there.
Customers are liking Tesco less and less and some will go elsewhere. Whatever happened to customer service? Why rush everyone? Are a few extra minutes so precious to tesco that they have to pressurise customers and staff?
I have done internet shopping in the past and given it up as a bad job as half the stuff is missing or substituted for things I don't want, either that or they have put the price up on the day of delivery. I find I don't have time to check my groceries before they go and then you have to ring them up and wait forever for a refund.
What if the customer is disabled or an older person who isn't as nimble as they used to be?
I don't bother any more, its too much hassle.Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000

Arrogant? How is asking customers to unpack quicker in order to get to other customers quicker being arrogant? 6 minutes is more than enough time to get it in, and I live in a third floor flat with no lifts, often taking delivery of 8 crates.
Customers taking 15-20 minutes to unpack their shopping is arrogance. The OP seems blissfully (selfishly) unaware that a whole chain of other people are waiting for her to stop messing around and get on with it. The drivers have a schedule to run too, and can get into trouble if they are late.
I don't think it matters what supermarket you use, if you constantly take 20 minutes to take a delivery they are going to get annoyed. We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0 -
I do as others do, carry each box in upack it onto the worktop and sort it out after he has gone. You cant really expect the delivery man to wait about whilst you unpack, sort and put away the a whole weeks shopping. In fact I would go so far as to say this is quite rude, and discourteous to both the delivery man and to the other customers who are waiting for thie deliveries. 6 mins is ample time to unpack even a large weekly shop.0

Oh dear, I do seem to be upsetting everyone this week don't I?
Whats the rush? Does it mean tesco will make less money? yes of course it does, poor them.
I have got to a stage in my life where I don't feel the need to rush around any more...life is just too short to shave minutes here and there. I am not advocating people take hours to unpack their groceries but to rush everyone is IMO unnecessary, why don't they allow extra time per delivery so everyone is happy?
For a supermarket to have the attitude of 'if you don't like it go somewhere else' quite frankly stinks.Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000

I do this as well, but the trouble is that if you find a mistake with fridge or frozen goods you have to return it to the store within two hours or they won't accept it back.
I didn't actually realise that some people unpacked everything with the driver waiting, that seems a bit rude.0 -
What size are the boxes? How can it take more than six minutes to unpack six boxes?
Are delivery charges not high enough, already? Do you really want to pay an extra £15 or £20 for a delivery?
Desperate Housewife and Leonies may well be rich enough to have the luxury of idly taking their time and faffing about but that is not an option many of us can afford.0
