Oh dear, I do seem to be upsetting everyone this week don't I?

Whats the rush? Does it mean tesco will make less money? yes of course it does, poor them.

I have got to a stage in my life where I don't feel the need to rush around any more...life is just too short to shave minutes here and there. I am not advocating people take hours to unpack their groceries but to rush everyone is IMO unnecessary, why don't they allow extra time per delivery so everyone is happy?

For a supermarket to have the attitude of 'if you don't like it go somewhere else' quite frankly stinks.

It does stink, and I'd be writing them a letter about that!

't's not what you say it's how you say it'

I do agree with others that you shouldn't expect him to wait while you check it all off, but I don't agree you should have been told that like you did.

Sainsbury usually allow only a short amount of time, but when I placed a big order (I got a bit carried away :o) then they allowed extra time for the unloading.

This is why I no longer get deliveries from Tesco, however, as they used to just dump and flee. I usually manage a chat with the delivery man from Mr S who puts the crates in the garden, we take the items out of the crates, I check after that all is there (no problem so far with Mr S but Mr T used to be a wonderful selection of substitution surprise) and all works quite well.

Sometimes they actually have a bit more time, because their slots aren't too full. I think it does depend.

Edited to add that I take more than 6 minutes to put away a weekly shop but I am notoriously not organised. I just ensure that the frozen/refrigerated bags are dealt with immediately and then the rest as and when.

I do this as well, but the trouble is that if you find a mistake with fridge or frozen goods you have to return it to the store within two hours or they won't accept it back.

If it's something you haven't ordered, they will often let you keep it and refund you anyway (assuming they had charged you in the first place). Tesco's customer service line is one of the most helpful in the country in my experience.

If it's a substitute the driver should have made you aware before he leaves, giving you ample time to hand it back.

If you were a delivery driver and everyone on your round of say 15 houses took an extra 15 mins to accept, check and unpack their delivery would you be happy? 6 mins is ample time, it doesnt mean you need to rush. If you have a special need such as age or infirmity then i am sure allowances can be made. The OP doesn't state this is the case.

And for a customer to believe they are always right, do not need to observe common courtesy, and yet be accomodated, is extreme bad manners.

If Tesco is that bad then why still use them?

I have my shopping delivered in bags which I quickly put inside my front door and unoack when the driver has gone.

I have had items missing which they refund straight away or on occasions have come back with.

I have had items that I havent ordered or paid for and they have told me to keep them.

I have had items with 1 day life on them and they have refunded me and given me a £10 voucher for.

If my delivery is going to be late the driver always calls me to let me know.

Leonies - please do not be put off by the cut and thrust of this debate. It may be useful to try different delivery services. You will find out which are the most helpful. Also try mysupermarket.com which shows different prices from different deliveries. Don't forget after switching between supermarkets to see which have the deals and whether there is a value/basics/smartprice alternative.

Also use whatever strategy works to get the delivery over with quickly.

As far as I am aware it has always been 6 minutes, or at least it has been for some time, my husband asked the delivery driver last year how long he is allowed and he said 6 minutes. That was a year ago, when we tried out not having carrier bags, but we decided it was just too much hassle for us and the driver! We have always just taken the shopping and then checked it after he has gone, when we didn't have the carrier bags we just shoved it all into the washing basket and other containers and let him get on with his next delivery. A few times we have had items missing but usually it is quickly sorted with a phone call to customer services for a refund. We stopped getting online shopping recently because of items out of stock and too many very short dates, Sainsbury's we found the worst for this!

We have always just taken the bags out of the crates onto the kitchen floor then sorted it later. I genuinely didn't know some customers expected the driver to wait whilst all the shopping is put away in its designated place?? That seems an extraordinary thing to expect him/her to do?

I have my shopping delivered without bags and i just dump it all on the floor , even though they normally ask if i want the crates taken indoors. It still beats going in store to shop?

I don't believe I am always right but I do have an opinion, sorry it doesn't match everyone elses but hey that's life get over it.

If I put pressure on a driver to unpack my stuff in 3 minutes say, would that be common courtesy? My point is that why rush anyone? Why don't tescos give extra time so everyone gets their shopping at the booked time. This way the customer doesn't feel rushed and the poor delivery driver doesn't feel as if he is racing against the clock.

If they employed 2 delivery drivers to do the work now allocated to 1 it would mean possibly better customer service and a step towards answering the unemployment crisis facing the country, if it means paying 1p extra for a tin of beans, what the hey, I wouldn't care.

As for bad manners, you might like to re read some of the replies on this thread, this is the first time this person has posted, no wonder people stop posting on here!
