Steady increase in June house prices

Are you completely daft ? the 120k was a response to another posters thread who quoted the average salary(15-20k) and house price (120k). I should imagine most FTBers are living at home and childless, have you stats to disprove this?
Do you have the stats to prove it?
I only have my experience to go by, and not one person is living at home with their parents while saving to buy a property with their partner. They all have partners. Most are renting, some have bought but rented together beforehand.
I'm now bowing out of this thread, as this will just go round and round in circles. But you are not talking real world stevie, and I think you know it, as a landlord who looks for those FTB's to rent your properties...What would you say is a realistic desposit to put down?
Erm. Cheaper house prices? House prices people can afford?0 -

I suggested current levels are not affordable and why. Nice spin, gotta give that to you!
You suggested people were not prepared to save for a deposit, muddy waters again
And people don't tend to save say 16k, and then blow it all on one purchase leaving them with nothing.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -

Oh come on Stevie, that's complete and utter desperation to suggest by me saying that I am saying people are not prepared to save.
I'm all for a bit of banter, but damn that's desperate.
Just proves how pathetic these threads get, and why.0 -

What? Just answer the question, what do you think is a reasonable, realistic quantity of money for an FTB to put down as a deposit? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Good answer, pity it wasn't to the question askedunless you are saying you shouldn't need a deposit  I thought we were at least agreed that no deposit was a bad idea.

house prices haven't just jumped to a point in time to a certain value - market forces have played a part in getting to the value they got to. market forces also got houses down to the value they are now.
prices seem to be stabilising due to market forces not because of the average wage.
they seem to got to a point where people thought they were too cheap and people got back in. it's quite simple really.Graham_Devon wrote: »Erm. Cheaper house prices? House prices people can afford?
house prices house buyers can afford - buying a house will never be afforded by everyone. there is social renting and private renting too.
if you can't get the finance or if you can't afford the house that you want - that is very different to a house being affordable.0 -
What's the average deposit been over the years? Aside from the boom times I would have though people would have been putting down a higher deposit (relatively) in the past. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Are you talking about now? Or some other point in time? If it's now then you are talking absolute boll0cks, and for any other point in time who cares.
at any point in time, prices going up or down - house prices will be driven by the market and what people are willing to pay
look at the prices from the lowest point in February - that's a 6% increase. It's not a 'steady rise' - we need hindsight to tell us if it is or not, and I strongly suspect it will turn out to be nothing of the sort.
Could MSE stick to reporting facts please rather than hypotheses? It rather ruins its image as unbiased.
the actual numbers are a 6% increase since February - that sounds pretty steady.
Feb £147,746
Mar £150,946
April £151,861
May £154,016
June £156,442
what the future holds nobody knows0 -
