Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Tuesday 30th June. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone is welcome, so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have screens, or slow internet connections, so please DON'T post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning. Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!
Hello all! hi.gif
Marie - Hope Thunder feels better today the poor little thing.
Haribo - your garden looks lovely, I am in envy of the size of it and the view!
Churchmouse - my peppers are just flowers right now, but all 8 plants have some so that is promising.
kjsam - sorry to hear you have had a rough time and it's good to see you posting again.
Hi to Squiggles, Sybil, Lesley, and 3Jays!
It was so hot yesterday and sleeping was almost impossible which is why I am up so early I think.
I had a few hours in garden and repotted up my penstemmons that needed a boost. I just cleared out as much compost from the huge tub as I could, put in some chicken poo pellets and planted a few spare bulbs I had lying around and refilled with soil to keep. It all looks much healthier in the tub now and if the bulbs don't grow I haven't lost anything, they were only lying around the coal hole. (nearest thing I have to a shed). We didn't get out til tea time, my OH was so tired he fell asleep when he got home from work and slept for 3 hrs.
Had a peek into Frog city too and there are still a couple of very tiny froglets in there which was lovely to see.
Tonights dinner will be frikadillen from Lidls with salad leaves from the garden. The problem with having a north facing garden is that my veg only get sun for half the day so I am behind most people with their veg. My lettuces have finally turned into real heads like you buy in the supermarket so I might just pick a whole one for the fridge. Am determined to pull some garlic today though, am very excited!:rotfl:
We have three cars to test drive this week - one in Plymouth and two in exeter and then decisions have to finally be made. So tomorrow we are hoping to do all three in one longggg afternoon! The weather forecast says it will be showery, so hoping it's accurate.
Hope you all have a great day! Warm gentle hugs.gif for anyone who wants one or needs one today.

    Morning all,

Haribo Your garden is gorgeous and I can see now how long it takes you to keep it trimmed. :D DGS made me go through your wildlife pictures 4 times. He can't get over how Scottish frogs & toads look different to Aussie ones.

It's come over quite cold in the last hour so I'd say we're in for a chilly night. Coming down with a head cold so think I'll have a nip of rum tonight. :D Oz Lotto winnings tonight is $90 million. :T I have the winning ticket. :p

Think I"ll have a frittata tonight & DH is picking a cabbage out the garden so will make a stirfry with it. Hope you all have a lovely day & <hugs> to those not well. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

Good Morning MSD, Aussie & all to follow

As we are talking frogs we havnt had any in our garden this year, dont mind them but they cant certainly give you a start. DS generally finds little lizards when its hot but hasnt so far. Haribo - I agree with everyone else your garden is beautiful (as is your house) am suitably jealous :D

Its lovely and cool here this morning, getting essential paperwork done now and will start the horrible filing jobs when the kids go to school. Was hoping to walk the dogs before the kids got up but have run out of time now - will do that tomorrow morning & give them a shorter walk later.

Ended up having a quick tea of beans & egg on toast last night as it was too hot for anything else. Kids are coming home from school and jumping straight in the pool. We bought one of those 15ft above ground pools from Makro for £199 6 years ago and its still going strong - was def worth every penny. We also manage to fill it up only once and keep the water clean - must admit even I was in it Sunday and quite possibly will be today.

It seems I am waffling this morning so will finish my tea and get on, have a great day & keep cool.

    Morning everyone.
MSD you are quite right it's too hot to sleep. I am drinking more which means more nocturnal trips to the little girls room so plus the sticky temps I am not getting my much needed beauty sleep.

Checked my bank balances yesterday. Bit depressed as we overspent on hols and it's another couple of weeks til payday. Feel really stupid about it because I thought we'd been more careful. We don't have much to live on since I am not bringing in any money and hate the burden all being on my H. Since I quit work end of Feb/March we had been coping OK on just one wage but it's all gone to pot for some reason and I feel quite fed up about it TBH.
So as you can guess not much going on for me then, except LOTS of NSD and free entertainment. I might get some baking done as the kids don't have any treats and we can't afford to buy anything.

MSD - your afternoon testing cars sounds fun but also tiring. Is Exeter far from Plymouth?
Essex-girl - your pool sounds just what I need ;)
Aussielass - good luck for the Lotto.

Edited because I pressed the wrong button before I'd finished.

Morning its going to be another hot one today, just said on the weather we are hotter than Florida and Majorca today , I was going into my garden but will have to see what its like.

I need to make a lasagne today, I hate making it, so always make up at least two, and bung the extra in the freezer, so tea will be lasagne, lettuce tomatoes and cucumber from my garden :T

I am also going to make up a fish pie for tomorrow nights dinner, will do extra mash so that I can make Pinks Potato thingies ( I am sure that is what she called them :D)

Other than that I might take down the lounge curtains and give them a good wash, and I have some paperwork to do.

I too found it hard to sleep, it was far too hot, and I kept getting up needing the loo.

Bitsy, hugs to you hun, I am sure we have all been there at one time or another, I know I have, I once paid all my bills, and bought food for the month and filled my freezer, and had NO money left at all, but I was pleased that the freezer was full, I came down in the morning and the freezer door had fallen off in the night and the food was all over the floor, I sat on the stairs and cried :o this was when I was a single parent and really struggled , this time will pass, and you will look back and laugh, but not yet, so hugs to you xx

Marie, hope kitty is ok this morning xx

Hugs to all, and keep covered and drink lots of water, have good days all xx

    Morning everyone :hello:

Thanks for alll the comments about the garden. :o The pictures are deceptive though as it really isn't big at all. It's North facing too Diva so I know what you mean about less sun. It only gets sun from midday to 6pm. I think I kept the peppers inside longer than usual so that maybe explains why they're ahead. ;) I'm really lucky to be able to nick plants from MIL and have had great success this year with growing annuals from seed, most of which were free in my gardening mag (bought with CC vouchers :D)I am lucky to be able to spend so much time out there at the moment. I know I couldn't do it if I worked full time or half as hard as most of you on here.:o....

Very tired this morning. :confused:The humidity level is realy high and there seems to be no air. Has been rain overnight so no watering this morning.

Once the girlies are at school I need to tidy up here, do some recycling and then go up to the school to check on the garden there.

Chicken, chips and salad for tea so no preparation required. Will go for a coffee with one of the mums when the girls finish at lunctime.

Good luck with the car hunting Diva
I'm sure the holiday was worth the money Bitsy. try not to beat yourself up about it.
Glad you convinced DH about the home improvements Elona.
Mean Marie.... Aussie's being rude about me trimming my garden. Can you call her a bold girl too please? :D:p;):o

    Take care all

    Hi all

    Lovely pics, Haribo!

Bitsy - Redruby's right - you will laugh about it one day, but I know how horrid it is when it's happening.

Redruby - I've been there more than once, and I cried bitterly one morning when I discovered that DH had taken the freezer plug out of the socket to plug his drill charger in, and hadn't remembered to put it back afterwards. No-one noticed until the following day. Like you, all my money had gone on food, and everything was defrosting in one go. DH said 'just leave it in there'; so I had to give him the lecture about how dangerous that would be. Anyway, I must have made an impression because he's a bit paranoid about it now! I labelled the plug with 'Don't You Dare!'

Well, it's going to another hot one here today. We registered 37 degrees outside yesterday, 26 in the warmest part of the house, but we have very thick walls, so parts of the house were lovely and cool. It was lovely later in the evening, when we strolled to the bottle bank with all our empties.

N9eav- we've got a persistent mole. Here, they blow them up with explosives, but I really don't want to do that. I'd rather he just went somewhere else! Apparently, they do go away eventually. The soil they sift up when they are tunnelling is great, though; we're collecting it all, and putting it around a weeping willow tree in the garden, and will put shade-loving bulbs in it.We have a peach tree with loads of fruit on it, as well as plum trees and a pear tree, so I'm collecting jars ready for preserving a bit later. Our neighbour turns everything he can find into alcohol, so we'll see what he can make with our fruit!

Anywya, I've mioliered, so I'd better go.

Hope you are all well, and (((hugs))) to those who need one.

Thanks ladies for the hugs. I think I am more disappointed with myself than anything. Disappointed that I haven't managed to get any work, disappointed that despite being a self confessed control freak I the one area I don't control is money :o Just feel a bit low so don't mind me.
Like you say in 10 years this won't matter and we have food in the freezer (chest one so at least unlike Redruby the door shouldn't fall off) so we won't starve.

    Morning all

Phew - it's gonna be a warm one....lovely cool sea breeze wafting in the windows at the moment (well it smells of the sea) but the sun is just about to tip over the opposite houses and we'll be in full sun all day.

Have DH at home again today, he was in a car accident back in March, a 3 car shunt to which he seemed to come off worse, his back has been really playing him up and yesterday the physio woman pressed something a little too hard in his neck, there was a loud crunch and he started swelling right down to his ankles...will get him back to the Dr's today for some different pain killers.

Haribo - Your garden's looking fab, loving the bunting!

Need to do a bit of weeding today, the peas are all finished so need to sort them out....the mangetout didn't even start, gave them every chance but need the space now.

Dinner will be something with something.....I'm really not into food at the moment - just wish someone else would deal with it for a change.

Bitsy - I'm having one of those months money wise too - thought I'd done so well, managed to get a couple of hundred into savings towards Christmas and then forgot a couple of quarterly DD's  (one of which is a membership to one of DH's professional thingies..so not even an essential ((well not essential to me anyway)) ....ahh well, it's only money.

Hope you all have great days what ever you're upto.

Bitsy - don't be too hard on yourself. It's just harder to find a job, these days - it's not your fault. It's also difficult for most of us to actually control money, especially the way prices are going up and up in the UK. You can control what you spend to a certain extent but, when something essential goes up in price, you can't control that.

Morning everyone - it's good to be back! I hope you're all well and that lots has happened since I've been away.

The weather up here in the islands has been pretty good over the last week or so, but it's definitely a bit cooler than the 30 ºC forecast for the south of the country.

Had a good time away catching up with friends inbetween going to my course which was really interesting and worthwhile going to.

My DH's car isn't well. It's an 05 Plate Fiat with only 20K on the clock and there's something majorly wrong with the gear box :( Going to cost the best part of £1K to put right :(:( Not such good news - but it's not the end of the world.

Right, best be shooting off. Hope everyone has a good day and can find a nice bit of shade to rest in, if the need arises.
