  • thanks for the info landymad! by the way, im not into sport particularly but yes, leeds would be my priority. good old leeds! think we should leave this one at this point :)

ok-please can you give me any advice on how i could set up a blog and what it requires etc?

any info at all, no matter how insignificant you think it may be.

can it just be my blog rather than letting others upload posts etc?

can you tell me of any websites i can get templates from etc? i have no clue about blogging! i do agree i can find tons of info to blog about in my game.

i now have my list more or less compiled and hope to get started on the site asap but had the weekend away for my birthday so nothing has been done.

2 weeks ago, my main biggest search 'electrician leeds' was page 39 on google as my site has always been 'uncomplete' and never really been updated. last week it shot to page 5 and now its page 2!!!!!!!!! i now have to keep this ranking up by updating asap with tons of stuff

Hi, I've just sent you a rambling email, but then remembered something else I wanted to say.
On your first page, just above all the logos/links you mention about being contact for a quote, but don't give any details on how to do this!

Try google regarding advice for the blog. Sorry - I'm in a bit of a rush right now. Will be in touch later.

Just started my own website, won't give the name away yet as nothing on it yet. One thing i do and have a little success, is domain parking. I just go through 123 reg but hear Sedo is good. I make about £8 a month of 3 domains, and i don't press any of my own links.

don't think i can post my links on here

    Hi

Soon enough.. the forum police will come along and you will get shot down for having a URL in your signiture.. do like me and put your website in your profile ;) ... if you mouseover and click the username you will see "Visit save-a-lots homepage".

All this reminds me of a business idea I had when I was at uni. I called it Txtrade.

Basically people fill out a single online form saying location, job, time and mobile
I'd then send that 'job' to 3 tradesman of that job in that location at a 50p text message to the tradesmans mobile. The tradesman would then bid for the job. I'd make £1.50 a job. This was in 2005. Now there are 100's of these sites.

With your site, i'd be tempted to make a trademan website and when someone comes in for a job thats not your trade then sell it to someone.

thanks very much for your time and effort hannah! the email looks very informative. although im not familiar with html etc, it does look like you have included some important points and when i get time (tonight/tom) ill look at it in more detail and confirm my findings.

your comment on 'contact for quote' - yes that seems to have been missed on that page. every other page also lists this more or less but some do have 'contact me' link. i understand what you said in the email regarding keeping things simple, bold, eye catching and easy to use as people dash round sites and make mistakes, miss things (like my menu 1,2,3 buttons! etc etc.

My friend has now got lots to go off for my new site and will be starting in next day or so, work load depending.

think for the minute, i need to concentrate on my content text etc.

ill come back to you by email asap hannah. kindest regards, martin

was a good idea in the late 90's early 00's but there a millions of these sites now and i have even registered with some just for the free business listing. cleverly, no matter how sneaky you are, they delete every single detail of yours, contact wise. this is so they make a pretty buck, either from tradesman or potential client.
everyone is out to make money now and all the harrasment im getting from sales people iss driving me mad! they are trawling the net for your details and buying them from free business listings/trawling listing sites! they continue to phone me every other day and they persist if you do not answer! hello? credit crunch! get a life and a real job like the rest of us have to do.

    sorry for the rant....and relax....

in a nut shell, if someone wants a job doing, its word of mouth and face to face/direct contact.

i was recommended to a site recently but i wont comment the name and give them more hits etc. they bombard you with emails and expect you to pay masses of cash up to pay for leads (customer details). ok they are very competative but you have to cough up £200 for ten customers details. you then compete against other trades to win the job. when times are hard, this may come in handy but when times are hard, cash is also short.

thanks very much for your time and effort hannah!

You're welcome. I hope it helps.
  • i have justed uploaded wordpress to my site and have started a basis for a blog and articles. im believing this can help massively with fresh content and ratings etc from what people are saying. the blog isnt listed as yet as ill need my mate to do that for me and it probably is not searchable as yet.
so far, i have only managed a about me/explanatory welcome page etc to the blog. can anyone kindly give me any valuable tips/do's/dont's etc. obviously this is only for the rankings etc and non-profit/resale. if i find some good articles on other site (my suppliers and manufacturer sites etc), can i cut and paste etc or is this against their copyrights? generally most of it is introducing and marketing their products etc and i will be adding my own reviews and advice. i appreciate there are probably tons of sites with info and lots of them unvaluable so, id love to hear from you with first hand experience. anyone with wordpress tips would be good too for a newbie! kindest regards
  • links to any blogs for business purposes would be good to so i can see the layouts etc
  • well i have managed to upload wordpress 2.8 to my domains cpanel for my site MTI Electrician in roundhay Leeds as mentioned but im now struggling to understand how to use it. im going to have a read up on it now as i appreciate its not probably something that can be easily described in a forum. i struggling right from the point of editing my header and adding pages and catagories. once i have found some basic info and had a play ill report back with any quieries i may have.

in the meantime, can anyone comment on my recent post in this thread regarding cut and paste etc from other sites content and legal issues. think it was about 2 or 3 posts back/up page.

    thanks all.
