  • i also have my proposed redirect domains now which i intend on using. i have no problems in setting up the redirects but can anyone please advise what these should contain per domain please?
should all domains have different titles and keywords etc
will they need a sitemap and robots text etc?
should there be any text on the site within html pages? although nobody can read it as they redirect, will it be needed for good content in the first place for pr?
    thanks, martin

    I've been Money Tipped!
I like the website a lot, but if I was looking for an electrician for my home then I think you'd be too "business" oriented and not so happy to do smaller jobs. If anything your site is too good, seriously.

The biggest problem though is if you do a google search for "electricians in leeds" then you don't appear anywhere near the top.

  • yes i agree, and that is my next problem! all my other 'good' keywords rank very highly but my main one 'electrician leeds' is about page 39! and this is on a geo google based search and uk search! its very poor! must be something to do with bad content and or lack of as all other pages have 'more or less' same html setup etc. if i was to now get friends and family etc or people in my area to search the term 'electrician leeds' and go to that page and click on me, would this help much or at least for the short term whilst i can bring fresh content to the site and make it look less business orientated for the organic searches of genuine potential customers? better yet, are people willing to do this for me and i can check the statistics in my cpanel? or is that to cheeky :)

i dont really want to have to loose to much of the site 'theme' etc as it does look good but how can i convince visitors that it is a little old friendly me?
  • wow wow wow wow wow!!!!

yesterday i was on page 39 of google for electrician leeds
TODAY IM ON PAGE 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YIPEEE!!!!!!!!!
google has indexed 6 more pages of my site overnight. just checked googlw webmasters tools!!!!

Well done Martin, I am trying my hand at creating a website, I have bought a couple of domains, but signed up to a hosting company before I really knew what I was doing.

The issue for me seems to be how to understand the control panel, incidentally, does anyone know of the easiest hoster where you save a template, build it as you want, then place it on the web?

That seems to be my problem, I have a design, but not sure how to get it from a to b!

cpanel is very well known and widely used. all the functions you need are there and it is kept up to date by your server. the templates are absolute rubbish and bog standard so as for optimization etc, there will be more work involved than just writing a new page. i wouldnt recommend the templates for a business site etc but the usere interface is excellent for users with less knowledge. its very easy to pull up pages and edit them etc. not only that, it comes with awstats package which tells you who looked at your website, what they looked at and for how long etc. its very useful and even tells you what your visitor typed in, in order to find your site. i can give you many pointers but still learning myself. best of luck on your venture!

again, cpanel is prob you best bet for building a template part by part, it lets you save it on the server and download to your pc whenever you like
  • hi again all. right, i have my new domains ready which im intending on using as 301 redirects to my main url.
please can anyone give me any pointers as to what i should and should not do with them with regards to content and where they point as im reading allsorts of mixed explanations on various sites.
basically i have chosen several slightly different domains that include my big keywords so that i have a chance with many variations although the best domains were already taken but by individual users.

if poss, im looking on their content and keywords etc, although visitors will not see the content as they are 301's

also, im reading that they should not all point at the same page of my main url? is this true and can i be penalised? this is what i was hoping to do so that visitors reach my homepage and see my full list of services as some of my pages may look like i only provide that one service which is listed on that particular page. obviuosly i can add nice big links on each page 'see my other services' etc or 'visit my homepage' etc

will all the other domains need sitemaps and robot text? if so, should the sitemap contain only the url of which it redirects to ie. the final destination?

ill probably think of more but any help and links to sites with info will be most appreciated in advance as always! kindest regards, martin

i think you may be getting confused

setting up a 301 redirect means that your new domain name does not have any hosting capabilities for it (ie, you cant put pages or any information on it), it is simply set up to redirect to your main domain name

Do you or anyone else know much about html? i know nothing much to be honest as its not my game but i was just hoping that if i was to upload or pm someone a copy of a page like my index etc, then hopefully someone could give me some pointers? it would be most appreciated.
i have basically been given the templates and have altered things as i have gone along but fear i may of deleted things or adjust them by accident. People also speak of h1, h2 etc but i cant seem to see these in my pages? i dont even know if my site is that css stuff!!!??? whatever css actually is! think its youtube time for some info but id be really appreciative of anyone who can give me pointers on the html pages for my site. thank you everyone

Hey, I just realised that nobody answered your above questions.

H1, H2 etc refers to the different headings on the page. H1 being the main one, etc.

CSS refers to Casading Style Sheets. I.e You create a template page for your website with the details that appear on each page (menu items, links, footers) and use that to create each subsequent page.

If you're still stuck then I'll try and give you further help.
