I've never had any problem.
Have booked several return flights to Barbados for friends and family, though not just with Virgin.
The trick is to book really early, as soon as the dates become available.
It's usually easier to get economy tickets, and getting one or two is definitely easier than trying to book 3 or 4.
Sometimes you have to be flexible. I'm flying to Tokyo in September but couldn't get two direct rewards tickets in business so I'm having to fly via Frankfurt on the way out Seoul on the way back. But just paid the taxes so worth it I think.
