I also had this thought. The family is obviously really excited and the money is going into trust for the daughter, if this is all a scam they are going to be GUTTED.

If I was a genuine buyer on any auction I really wouldnt want to be in a newspaper plus I may be miles and miles away so unless its somebody local to them who wants to be famous.....

Normally the news papers pay for the travel and you never know people might just bid to be famous for a day.

    I found 2 in total.
I put one on Ebay 24 hour auction, loads of bidders, 2 frantically outbidding each other in the dying seconds winning bid £320!!!, however that was yesterday, and the person has yet to respond to any of my messages nor the has he paid:rolleyes:, so if doent stump up i will need to faff about with ebay to stop me being charged fees and re list it.

the second on ei have put on Ebay 24 hour auction and that ends lunch =time tomorrow.

I am as others have said worried that i will get conned by someone claiming i sent them a normal 20p

I must admit im quite surprised to hear of somebody being paid :o my worry is that the buyer will do a chargeback through Paypal, stating item not as described and send a normal 20p back. Whats the chances?

Sorry to sound so negative, just im in two minds what to do with my mine and everything about them on ebay just seems dodgy to me and I dont want to be stung

You only need look at all the dodgy sellers trying to rip people off to know there are also loads of dodgy buyers after scamming you!!

No he didnt do a chargeback in fact he had to leave a positive rating before paypal would release the money (their security not his) and he left this rating as soon as he received it....

This item arrived very fast and was as described. ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL ITEM

Its better in my opinion to put it on a buy now for about £250 and require immediate payment, then you are sure to get your cash, and keep pics of them side by side so you can proove that you had two.

Would it be some measure of protection to put an official-looking (?typed and printed) note in with the coin saying that you have an independent witness to the fact that you have sealed a genuine coin in the packaging.

Even better if you can say the witness is a member of a professional body, eg doctor, lawyer, teacher, accountant etc.

In fact, if you put on your Ebay listing that the coin would be accompanied by such a guarantee, then it would deter the scamsters from even being interested.

When I searched for undated 20p coin there were 2,661 results found. I wonder when they are going to stop putting in the original 20p. And probably people are buying them from ebay and then putting them back on. Thats probably where they are going to circulate, ebay.

Edit: look at this link from ebay how much people go up to, I dont know why they do it.

This still does not prevent them doing a chargeback with paypal. They have 45 days to to start a chargeback regardless of feedback. Just make sure you have online proof of delivery such as special delivery with royal mail.

Heard some people are being threatened to be reported to trading standards who are on the con with a normal 20p. Are they able to do this?
