Lost 1 lb this week... I'm a bit disappointed. I really need to make sure I eat well in the evenings.

Thought Id join in with you all if thats ok.

I dont want to reveal how much I weighed either - not til Ive knocked off a lot more.

Ive been dieting for about 3 months now but the last 3 weeks have been in real earnest as I have a wedding in the states on 1 August.

Ive managed to get 3 and half pounds off in the last week and I am pleased with that. I am calorie counting, walking a bit more. I have a back/knee prob, I used to gym 5 times a week and dance 3 times a week - I was a size 10 then and underweight to be honest. I started dieting when I was struggling to get into size 16 jeans  As a triple whammy, no gym/dance, hit menopause and packed up 25 fags a day habit.

All in all Ive lost 1 stone 5 lbs to date. Id like to lose another 2 stone.

Welcome hethmar and well done on packing in the cigarettes, and there is no reason to give your starting weight - half of us have, half of us haven't! Are you following any particular change of life plan (not a diet - that these days has bad connotations!)

Hi not really, I have just got my self into a mind set where I realise that the pleasure of eating is far outweighed by the misery of not wanting to look in mirrors or go out buying new clothes.

Im calorie counting so that I eat roughly 1200 calories a day. I am grazing, eating every few hours even if its an apple or a few cherries - that stops me feeling hungry and binging. I also drink a glass of water when I feel hungry.

I packed up ciggies nearly 3 years ago now - after smoking for 40 years - if I could do that, I must be able to get shot of this extra weight which is making my legs and ankles hurt and my car creak as I get in and out of it.

    Thanks for the welcome :)

    !

What a coincidence. I discovered meringue nests a few months back 52 calories each and I too have them with fat free plain yoghurt and a little bit of fresh fruit. Strawberries or cherries at the moment - got tons of those from the market - banana sometimes.

hethmar, welcome and thanks for your post. You really do seem to have that willpower which so many people lack (including me :o). How did you come to this stage, was it a LBM or what did it for you?

I really need to get real with myself about my eating and exercising - I am doing too much of one and not enough of the other!! I read this today on the Tesco Diets site, it was a really good kick up the bum for me:

    http://www.tescodiets.com/getting-real-about-slimming-for-summer/24006/18/1322/

I am maintaining at the minute (if fluctuating within a 5lb range counts), so I'm guessing that my current level of eating and exercise is right for maintaining. I therefore need to up my exercise levels and reduce my calorie consumption properly to lose weight. And keep it up!!!! :o So obvious but not so easy to do...

Calorie counting bores me, I'll be honest with you. If I can't find the content of a food (or it's a dish I haven't cooked and I don't know the ingredient quantities) then I'll give up for that day as I know it won't be accurate. :( Is that defeatist?

    Anyway, sorry for the ramble...

I dont know, its my nature I guess :) I tend to prevaricate for ages and then get stuck in.

Lying on my bed nearly breaking my fingers trying to do up some size 16 jeans was a bit of a kick up the butt. But I think just looking in the mirror - I had to force myself to do it naked and I felt so low that I knew there was only way I could make it better ( I honestly looked like Bubbles de Vere) - and that wasnt eating a cream cake to cheer myself up.

You dont need to calorie count everything - well, Ive learnt really what calories are roughly in what. But if you are cooking for a family I know its hard. I am doing chicken casserole tonight. OH will have it with crispy roast potatoes and some crusty hot bread and butter. I will have half a chicken breast on its own.

Thats the only way Im going to lose weight and Im determined that by Christmas I shall be a size 12 :)

    Hey all,

Was planning on making pasta for tea but then realised I had 2 courgettes attempting to take over the world on the plants outside - one yellow and one green. In the spirit of moneysaving they've been added to a tin of chickpeas (40p), creamed coconut (aka coconut milk - bought as 'end of line' for 9p), a splodge of thai curry paste (5p), an onion (5p) and some rice (7p) to make 3 meals for a total of 66p :T I think I'll just enjoy my very tasty, veg packed meal and ignore the calories in coconut milk LOL :D

Tomorrow, day 8 and one week on, I plan to weigh myself for the first time.
I`ve already explained that I only do it once a week hoping to see a reduction, whereas to keep jumping on and off the scales every day and hardly seeing them move and some times going the wrong way,can be disheartening.
I "feel" that I have lost weight, mainly round the waist as my jeans seem less tight.
I`ve stuck ridgidly to calorie counting and cut back on alcohol, just the odd can of lager and glass of wine
If it wasn`t for Dragon`s monthly "junkit",I would have plodded on as usual and not bothered trying to lose the surplus few lbs.

Good luck to everyone and keep counting the cals or whatever works for you.
Will post the weight tomorrow.:eek::eek:

Yes, its a bit disappointing when you feel slimmer but the scales dont say that :( I weighed myself today after 2 days (they are electronic scales) and Ive lost just 4 oz! 4 oz, oh well, half a pack of butter is better than nothing or putting on weight.
