I would sell it for sure! You can select when selling that you do not accept returns, that's what I always do no matter what I'm selling. If it were me I would put it on a buy it now where immediate payment by paypal is required then it will stay active until someone pays and no-one can make a bid they do not plan on paying for!
  • just re-checked to make sure and its not :( proper gutted wouldn't of minded five grand haha

at least you won't be green now :P

I did the exact same thing lastnight! :(
If google doesn't know it, how should i?

Don't worry too much... Take accurate photos, (maybe scans to show details?) then the buyer knows exactly what they are getting. Perhaps start at 20p (you know you will get a LOT more!) well that's what i was gonna do when i thought i had one lol. I'd suggest sending recorded, but that's only covered for upto 36 pounds i think, I'm sure someone else on here will know the best way to post a small high value item??

Thank you to everyone for their advice. There are so many dodgy ones on there at the moment I think I will leave it for a while. After all it didn't really cost me anything (except 20p!) and mortgage is paid and food in the cupboards, perhaps I will save it for a rainy day. If nothing else it will make a good conversation piece!

  • I became aware of the situation a month ago when by chance I came across an internet article. I actually found 2 of the coins and sold them on Ebay at the time for £22 each!! Which was a good price then...... look at them now. But I am wary of the amount of coins on offer at the moment on Ebay. My job is a conductor, and I handle loads of coins a day. I have been checking daily and I have only ever come across those 2. I feel there are a lot of scams out there. Why bid £5000 for a coin and some have been listed as buy it now for £50!!!! If you find one I wouldn't risk ebay - like the previous poster says they may diddle you. Either enter it into a coin auction or wait a month or so for the hype to die down then try it.
  • Someone is selling a bunch on normal 20p' s (which have bids) and also same seller has a signed Micheal Jackson photo (possibly fake?) look at his feedback as a seller!!! and people are STILL bidding!?

This thread inspired me to go and rummage through some old coins I have. I've found a couple of silver half-crowns which seem to go for around £25 on Ebay. They're solid silver, but a bit tarnished. Is cleaning them a good idea or would I be better leaving them as they are?
Leave them just as they are! If you shine them up (e.g. with brasso) it puts tiny scratches in which detracts massively from their value! Maybe just soapy water and a dishcloth at most.

It just ended for £5,800.00  why??? surely that can't be right?
Sounds a lot to me like the ILLEGAL practice of shill-bidding. Seller has a few mates who build the bidding up to increase the value. Go thru all the procedure to make it seem like a legitimate sale, but really no sale takes place.
