Is there somewhere else to look them up?

Re the training, I guess I must be doing something right... Makes a change for me :rotfl:

Ah running isnt genetic unless you are talking about 100m and that - then its very genetic...

The running we do is dependant on slow twitch muscles which can be developed and trained over time - hence why consistent training scedules are the way to break your pbs and get to your targets...

Sammy sorry you asked why I started running yesterday and I went to bed :p

The reason is because I was too cheap to pay for tube costs as well as train costs when I was commuting - I walked the 2.8 miles each way for a few weeks and was bored with it so thought I'd try running it because I wasnt playing footy anymore and needed to keep up my fitness - honestly it took me three months to just get going at all  when I joined the running thread I had run 5.25 miles twice I think (that was in August last year)

tell the truth! you thought it was a good way to pull the blokes! and it worked!

I don't know about that. I think some people are born more athletic than others. That's not to say that everyone can't improve with practice though of course they can. But even with 20 years of running I would never be able to compete with the professional people. A lot of them have longer legs than me and that has to help :rotfl:

Long legs is good? There might actually be a chance for me then :D

I totally agree otherwise everyone would be winners. I wonder if they took 2 children and put them through exactly the same training for 10 years whether there would be one who is better than another? And it is genetic too as its a fact that for example black people have a much higher percentage of fast twitch muscle fibers which helps no end (ooo I do remember something when I studied A level physical Education...PMSL don't all laugh at once :rotfl:)

I watched a programme on a runner once....he is a bit camp and married to the woman in casualty....100metres...(I think) and it was whether he was fast was done to genetics or training. That involved taking a piece of his muscle and testing it for the twitch muscle. It also looked at his diet and he bordered on having an eating disorder. Very very interesting....

However, I do think some people are pre disposed to running fast over short or long. I remember at school doing cross country - slowly setting off and plodding round only to find myself whizzing past everyone who had set off at a great pace. Not something I seem to be able to recreate in my old age.

I also walked on saturday along a training run route and I was itching to run it, but had Chloe in the pram....:rotfl:

I assumed that being shorter would be more of an advantage

    I'd love to be shorter....and lighter :p

  • Thanks Sammy and Squizz, think you are right, and I can't blame her wanting a record, it just makes me feel invisible - the last email said 'yes okay then' - just SAY it :rotfl: I will keep my own records, keep my guard up, and see what happens... desperately looking for something else.

Sally, thanks, I think you are right about mind over matter. I think I almost talked myself into a panic attack in the heat, I just suddenly thought 'what if I can't breathe' which is completely silly, I did stay calm but it would have been easy to lose it a bit. I go SO slow, actually there was a woman power-marching her kids down the road behind me and I kept looking to see if she was catching up  but I'll see if I can get a bit more out tomorrow morning. I have to do my OU essay in timed conditions so I will run for a clear head, then get it out the way :)
