This happens with Barclays. when pay cash in it shows on the little statement as cleared but if it is after the cut off time it will not actually clear until the folloing working day. My local office does have it on the cashiers windows etc that transactions made after 3pm will NOT clear until the following day.

If you speak to them then there is a good chance that they will refund you this charge as a one off - but they wont do it again. Have been caught out myself by this but it is in the branch for all to see

My only communication has been with the call centre. The exact same thing happened to me 5 months ago but i got a refund. This time i get nothing because they deny that the funds showed as clear after 4pm (i am lying they think).

yes it is unusual to withdraw money so soon after depositing but it does clearly expose the fact that banks deliberately give debits priority over deposits. Deliberately delaying a deposit and giving favour to debits is a SCAM no doubt about it.

The deposit showed on the online statement when it was made, not just the mini statement. I feel sick knowing that when the system was developed, the bank deliberately designed this flaw into it! To allow debits in real time but shuffle deposits at midnight

    FRAUD
–noun 1.deceit, trickery, sharp practice, or breach of confidence, perpetrated for profit or to gain some unfair or dishonest advantage.
2.a particular instance of such deceit or trickery: mail fraud; election frauds.
3.any deception, trickery, or humbug: That diet book is a fraud and a waste of time.
4.a person who makes deceitful pretenses; sham; poseur.

if the cut-off time is 4pm, then the statement should hold at 4pm. Not shuffle at midnight! Perpetrated for profit or to gain some unfair or dishonest advantage.

Who has hardened the meaning of fraud so that banks are simply labeled as mischievous? If you changed the date on a bank slip for unfair advantage then you would find yourself before the judge. FRAUD

If both the deposit and debit were passed over to next day then that would be acceptable. But it did not

If it has happened to you before, and you had to fight for a refund, then you will (and should) have to fight harder for a refund this time.

(I agree it seems odd that cash can't be drawn out straight away without incurring charges).

i am suprised that the banks with all their good intention do not create a txt/email warning system that warns customers that they are overdrawn or heading that way.

    lol

How many people per week place deposits in cash boxes after 4pm on Friday to cover direct debits that are due on Monday. They find that the debits show on Saturday (early) but the deposit was too late and get charged. FRAUD

Saturday is not a working day. However, it is possible to see early debit transactions going through on a Saturday. Equally you can usually see automated credits going through on Monday as well and they will usually offset each other with no problem. Counter transactions may not get processed until much later on the working day (or next working day if after cut off).

Banks require that you pay the money in one working day before the debits are due. Paying in after 4pm on a Friday for a Monday debit is not doing that.

    :rotfl::rotfl:Good joke.

Your best bet is to remember how the Banking system works. That what most of us do. TBH paying in cash after 4pm is a bit pointless if there is any chance you may need it, especially a smallish amount that could have waited until the next working day (i.e. it wasn't an amount you'd have been worried about keeping at home...).

BTW I see you haven't actually thanked any of the responses you got on your thread?
