Its a brand new property so it has never been connected before. I have been told that my wiring runs the full length of my estate to me. (all round the houses so to speak) Why?

Your phone line will go "all round the houses" it is a more sensible way than running it direct and under everyone elses houses and gardens !!!

All cabling follows the most practical route - you may have noticed that cable from your light switch to the light goes up inside the wall then across to the light fitting inside the ceiling. Would you rather it went direct ? It would save on cabling costs - and you could hang your washing on it then as well :D

Would you rather your broadband was from an exchange 4000 m away or 2000 m away? You do the math Sherlock. there is one born every minute:mad:

Sorry Amy - but when in a hole, "stop digging" - you are just making yourself look somewhat silly. As you rightly say, there is "one born every minute" and I'm afraid it isn't me in this case.

I gave you a link (above) for you to do a bit of investigating and to help yourself - all you seem to want to do is complain - try doing something for yourself.

Is your local exchange LLU ?
    Is ADSL2+ available ?
    Is cable available ?
    Is wirefree available ?
    Is satellite available ?

For whatever reason, doubtless a VERY good reason, YOU were connected to the exchange that you are connected to.
Are you really suggesting that BT comes and lays a new 2000m cable just for you - all for your £10 a month line rental ! Please join the real world.

Ok this is the postcode for my exchange NN189JX
and this is the postcode for the exchange I want NN171TR
If you select these two on Samknows 'exchange mapping' you will see an overlap of area coverage. If you zoom in I live on Lyveden way NN188FN.
So why would it not be possible to connect me to that exchange?

Its obviously not my correct address but near to. How do you know there are no cables? I spoke to BT yesterday and they seem to think I can switch exchange subject to me being cut off for a 4-5 day period.

    BT Engineer here.

It is impossible to switch exchange areas, unless you are lucky enough to be right on the border with a pole from each exchange within spanning distance (around 60m without carrier poles).
