to quote your earlier post:
"I really wish people would take the time to read posts properly and take in the information contained within them before rushing to express their opinion".
No-one is saying we do not like people who receive benefits - we are saying that we do not like people who receive benefits to which they are not entitled - totally different thing! Its has nothing to do with being "self-righteous" but everything to do with being "honest". You say we would think differently if we were in that situation. What brought you to the conclusion that none of us have ever BEEN in that situation or have friends who have been in receipt of benefits at some time? Believe me, nothing has or ever will entice me to steal money which does not belong to me and I have nothing but contempt for those who do (including friends if that were the case).0 -
No what we are saying is we DON'T LIKE PEOPLE WHO COMMIT BENEFIT FRAUD.Barclaycard 3800

Sorry, my apologies, I was replying specifically to Tongue and no one else, I should have quoted him in my previous reply."As if by magic... the shopkeeper appeared."0

I was not having a go at you either - just reiterating my stance on the subject. I do understand that you are not saying you condone benefit fraud - I am sure you are just as opposed to it as the rest of us. Spose we all have a different way of looking at it - but its made for an interesting debate.0 -

Not at all it's just the FRAUDSTERS and CHEATS who I don't like getting FREEBIE handouts while you, me and lots of others pull our testicles out earning a crust to support these low life leeches!0 -
The harsh reality of benefit fraud is that the bulk of it is comitted by organised criminal gangs who defraud millions of pounds each year from the Benefits Agency.
in Scotland there is a saying..." many a mickle makes a muckle"!!!!
fair do's there are organised crime gangs commiting huge volumes of fraud but there are a darn sight more individuals (mickles) commiting fraud than gangs and the costs (muckle) are probably the same to the TP if not more.fatblokexl:EasterBun:0 -
Reading with interest. From experience you only get Council or HA Housing if you cannot afford to rent privately, this means you get Housing Beneift and Coucnil tax Benefit. if the lady is a lone mother she will get Income Support as well as other benefits.
If she is not living in the house she obviosuly does not need it and should give it back to the council. People like this make me mad. We have been on the list for 6 years now and have not been offered anything and I live in my mums house at the moment. We have not even been offered anywhere. In our area they have closed the housing list now. The list is at the Coucil Offices, the houses are Housing Assossiacian. The time I had nowhere to live they would not house me yet told me they would help with my deposit despite me not earning enough to pay the rent. They don't just give houses out unless there is a reason. However, I could be wrong. But, even though she has children she will not automatically get a house so there has to be another reason.
But, speaking as someone having been on the list for 6 years, this lady does not need somewhere to live so tell the council, if she is doing nothing wrong then it will make no difference. However, they probably don't give a monkeys anyway!! But that is another story.0 -
blue monkey, please do not assume that everyone who lives in council houses are in reciept of benifits . people can be eligable for council housing for many different reasons, homelessness, overcrowding, people fleeing domestic violence,ex forces personel etc or just simpley because your name has got to the top of the list ! i know that the media would like everyone to believe that all council estates are full of work shy single mothers claiming benifits ,but not every area or everbody fits this sterio type . just because somebody is a lone mother it does not automatically mean that they are getting income support .
also please dont be under the assumption that you can only get housing and council tax benifit if you live in a council house. anybody who is renting can apply for housing benifit and anybody, even homeowners are eligable to apply for council tax benifit, that is , of course if they are unfortunate to have such a low income .0 -
My OH works for the council (housing) and I just bugged him at work for his thoughts.
If the nosey neighbour really can't let this go it would be best to wait and see if she sub lets the property. At the moment if she is paying the rent without benefits she isn't doing anything wrong. In his area a large number of properties are sub let, mainly to immagrants and it is a huge problem that is very difficult to prove.
If this was all brought about because of a blip in her marriage, not for the purpose of swindling anyone, he should leave well alone and channel his energy elsewhere. If he persists and puts her marriage under further pressure, she may well end up living in the council house and what will he have acheived? It wont be freeing up a council property, that's for sure.0
