    Morning everyone :hello:

    Misty & very muggy here

As I've said before DD, I don't "know" you as well as some of the other posters but you've as much right to be here as everyone else & of course we all like you, that's why we're all concerned when you seem so down - have dodgy hug :grouphug:
With regards to being the last person to go to a meet, I haven't been yet, even booked the hotel for the Manchester meet & cancelled 2 days before 'cos I wasn't feeling brave enough  & I think that the Manchester meet was only Spud & Bookie's first time.
So we'll look forward to seeing you Weymouth in August or the one after that in Bristol in September - yes ? :p

Go for it Bookie - I did my job application yesterday afternoon :D
Can't say anything but thank you Inky xxx

DD - just take it easy with the running - I find it hard to accept that I cant run as much as I did and Ive only had a 7 weeks off!!!

But weeks of consistently increasing mileage brings it back very quickly - and you'll have one advantage over most people - you've done it before :D

Treating the rfl as a stepping stone onto more running would be the best way I think - then it doesnt matter what the time is, its just a motivator to get started again :D

Hope the run went well but remember its super warm out and thats very energy sapping!!! I wont go out now till 7 or 8pm!

Oh DD, I'm so sorry to hear that, no wonder you're feeling down. I really think you should see the doctor. They shouldn't judge you, so what if you have tattoos? It's not a big deal anymore. And if you've moved past self harm then you've done amazingly well - I haven't. Given what you've been through I really think you need some help and support from professionals, we're here for you anytime, but you probably need more than that.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Bookie, I know exactly how scary it is when you are on the verge of giving up something you have been doing for over 20 years. It's like standing on the edge of the grand canyon knowing you have to jump without knowing if the fall is going to hurt or if you will bounce up to somewhere better.

It was easier for me in one sense because I do have a husband who is earning. But, his income is erratic and sometimes we can go 3 months with no money coming in (then it all comes in at once). At least when there were two of us in that position we managed to get some income most months.

The scary bit is on a personal level. From being here we know that we won't starve and that although it might be a rocky road we will survive. But losing something you love and are comfortable doing is horrible. I went into panic mode and knew I had to find something to replace what I was losing, for days on end I searched careers websites and the university book of courses.

In the end I just stumbled across the midwifery program and thought I'd fancy giving that a go. I filled in the application full of doubt, I mean I have nothing on paper to offer really. I'm a musician, what use is that in the real world? There are hundreds of people applying for a handful of places on this course, people who have been dedicated to doing the pre study and people who have all of the necessary skills in place. I felt like a total fraud. So I was pretty shocked when I had a telephone conversation with the admissions tutor and she offered me a last minute interview day.

I went along thinking they are only inviting me to satisfy their curosity about this woman who plays drums for a living who has had the cheek to apply for a medical career. I also expected to be sitting there in the group of potential students feeling utterly out of my depth and fidgeting in my chair waiting for it to be over.

So, during the interview I was just me, I was honest about my lack of knowledge and skills, I was open about why I was there, where my life had led me so far and how I needed something to fill the void left by my losing my career. I told them that I'd spent the last 30 years learning my craft as a musician and felt that even on my last gig I would still be learning, I need to have an active mind and I need something where I will never stop learning every day, even in another 20 years.

I'm still not really sure why they chose me to join the course when there were hundreds of unsucessful applicants. But they did.

For me, this is a new start and a new challenge. Filling in your registrar application is the same thing, although honsetly you are a much better catch on paper that I was. Try not to worry and be scared. Be you, list your skills, tell them how good you are with people and all of that. But most importantly tell yourself that this is the start of something new and that life will only lead you to where you are meant to be. You have faith and that can help you too today, god clearly thinks that you don't need to spend your life dealing with the dragon book type of women, there is something better out there for you. You just need to have faith in yourself too.

DD, please go back to the docs - if you didn't like the last one maybe there is someone else in the practice you can see. You are going through a lot and I'm glad you are talking to OH but these things don't go away on their own.

Hope the run/walk helps. But come back here and post whenever - there's usually someone around to listen. Take care. x
