The Gizmondo company recently went bankrupt, so you won't get any help from them. The Gizmondo was originaly sold in three flavours

    - a cheap version that would automatically download adverts every time you switched it on, and made you watch them.

    - a mid-priced version that didn't download adverts.

    - a version that came bundled with the GPS maps & software on an SD card and a dashboard cradle.

It was mainly sold as a games machine, but also has a built-in camera, MP3 & video player, GPS receiver and it could send and receive data via mobile phone connections, (for web browsing). Its a bit like an advanced version of the PSP, (Sony is releasing camera, microphone and GPS peripherals for the PSP soon though).

Now that the company's gone bust, there'll be loads of these units sitting in warehouses and retailers won't know what to do with them. As far as I know, there are only about 10 games available for it and you'll have trouble finding anyone that sells them.

  • Bought this for my hubby for christmas from Maplin, cost me £200 and another £40 for the cradle!! But, he loves it, he plays his MP3s on it, uses it as a camera and the sat nav is invaluble. He wasnt that interested in the games side of it, but Im gutted if its costing a lot less now, as I thought it was great value when I bought it!
if you cant have what you want, be grateful for what you have :T

Currys have the full range of games available online. They also have 2 versions of the gizmondo itself... BOTH have the sat nav software with it but one doesnt have the cradle. As far as I can see all of the UK versions should have had the sat nav software included. Mine has no mention of Navigator 2006 on the box... I had a small slip of paper telling me about it and a SD card with it on it... It does not install on to the gizmondo.. It is left on the card and runs from there.

The cheap version that has smart adds was a subsidised version . You got £100 off if you took this one but it was the same as the mid range that is the one in currys without the cradle... It still has the sat nav software included.

Maplin now sell it for £149 as well
  • buy a gizmondo, and fund the mafia! *thumbs up* ;)

Can anyone confirm that this has a GPS receiver built in as the old Argos catalogue says "add satelite-based gps and see how good it is".

The original Argos price was £129, so there is some worry as to which version it is/was.

Has anyone used the gps in a car?

Went to my argos today... unfortunately no GPS software in the box so decided not to get it. Make sure u ask them to check first as this product is exempt from the 16 day money back guarantee meaning u cant get ur money back if you have bought it.

the argos one does not have the satnav software but it does have gps, it is a bit misleading on the desc and box but if you read it over and over it does say you need to buy the software and cradle seperate if you can find it.
