If the chicken huggers loved them so much surely they wouldn't actually eat them, would they? But then we are into another argument altogether - if people didn't eat chickens no-one would breed them in the first place. I mean, it's not as if they make good house pets.Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
From the Red Tractor website:
We all want quality food that’s affordable and safe to eat. The Red Tractor is an independent mark of quality that guarantees the food we’re buying comes from farms and food companies that meet high standards of food safety and hygiene, animal welfare and environmental protection.
I only ever buy meat with the red tractor as I know it is supports British farmers and has higher welfare standards.0 -
You appear to be a very rude, patronising person who feels that they are qualified to insult, lecture and pick holes in the way other perfectly well educated, moral, ethical and reasonable people choose to run their lives.
You are entitled to your opinion - but please do not try to RAM it down everyone else's throat. You will get further if you stop implying everyone else is an idiot and that you are the only person with personal ethics.
1. I am qualified to 'lecture' , I have a degree in agriculture and worked in the industry for 10yrs before I woke up one morning & realised the industry was treating animals more & more like machines in order to get the cheapest food
2. I see nothing ethical or moral about the way some on this forum run their lives, but thats their choice like its my choice to try to make people think about what they eat - I can sleep at night knowing that I didnt turn away and walk on by
3. Tesco have been shown to have no ethics when it comes to the chicken industry, so I have little hope that the £4.99 chicken reduced to £2 has a life spend in conditions which are approved by freedom foods
4. In my new line of work I see people living in poverty and its a total disgrace.....however and this is the honest truth, they have the biggest Tvs, latest phones, smoke, drink, take drugs and often drive better cars than myself and they are on benefits and I work fulltime. Makes you wonder really who is the one in 'poverty'. There are of course the few who are genuinely in financial trouble - and I agree these people must survive however they may. For the majority its choices and animal welfare is low down on their priority and I find that very sad.
Before people criticise me, why not pop down to a broiler shed and see for youself what goes on, the smell, the heat, the noise, the dead birds, the sheer numbers - its a crap life. I have more respect for meat eaters who actually know where their meat has come from and the conditions in which it was reared, if you then choose to eat it then fair enough that is your choice0 -
Can you not get these online?0

Qualified or not, the fact is this is not a debate about ethics, it is a thread devoted to helping those on a low income find bargains.
I cannot afford to give two hoots about animal welfare, I just care about the total on my reciept, and no amount of tedious and unwelcome lecturing from you is going to change that.
Everyone is well aware of what goes on in farming, and we are adult enough to make up our own minds without people like you spamming the threads with your self righteous propaganda.

Pleasant person arent you but I wouldnt expect anything less....:T0 -
AFAIK the Red Tractor means it's produced to British Standards, not necessarily in Britain.
I'm currently reading Not On The Label (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Not-Label-What-Really-Plate/dp/0141015667) - It's not just a preachy book about vegetarianism/veganism, it looks into every aspect of food production - ie shops re-labelling food with new sell-by dates, chlorine sprayed salad (yup, how did you think those salad bags stayed fresh?), the fact that buying from abroad is (has) destroyed our ability to sustain our own population...etc. Long life bread is sprayed with anti-fungal agents _pale_ Well worth reading.0 -

As I said before, you are certainly entitled to your view - but the way in which you are coming over all 'holier than thou' , labelling other people as ignorant, without morals or ethics, and making out that YOU are the only person with and sense of decency is quite uncalled for. And it isn't doing much to further your case (some of your points I do actually agree with!).
PS You are not qualified to lecture me - inspite of your qualifications and experience. The most you can do is offer advice - and, if you were a little less sanctimonious, more people would listen to you and possible act on your advice.ELITE 5:2
