Does nobody here care about how these living animals were reared so that you can have your cheap chicken? and dont tell me you cant afford it - when in the supermarket I see people with these chickens or battery eggs and they ALWAYS ALWAYS have wine/beer or other 'luxuries' at the check out queue. Theres a cost to these cheap items and that cost is bourne by some poor intensively produced animal and also the farmer. I would rather go without and so would my family then know we were part of this practice they call 'farming'. Bring back proper farming with less intensively produced products, it would improve taste and importantly improve animal husbandry and welfare . Animals are NOT machines........

People can make their own choices - and most will chose the cheap varierty where its available.

End of the day the chicken is killed - be it £2 or £20.

So it doesnt matter what standard of life it has, a £20 chicken has a much more normal life than a £2 job stuck in a shed. I used to work in agriculture for 10yrs, practices like the £2 cheapo chicken meant I couldnt ethically continue with my work. Trouble is people like you dont care where your meat comes from as long as its cheap. Perhaps if people actually experienced these hell hole rearing sheds, then kill the bird themselves they may have to examine their moral and ethical views.

End of, I'd rather pay more knowing the bird had a decent life and not have the crate of stella

You are right - I am not particularly bothered whether the chicken led a 'happy and productive' life.

Therefore I will enjoy this offer while it is available

Here's the thing...I'm a veggie, but buy meat for my eldest and a high portion of that is chicken...he is still very young, so I buy the best 'quality' I can afford for him and only 'happy' chickens. Bully for me, that's my choice.

The same as, if people want to buy 'bad quality' chickens reared in the '7th level of hell' they can! Woopie! It is their choice too.

I can not believe that anyone is coming onto a thread saying chickens are £2 and thinking they are getting anything other than chickens that have a less than happy life. They know it, they do not need educating to it, I doubt, especially after Mr.Olivers publicity, that anyone is ignorant of the issue of welfare/price when buying chickens.

People are not on MSE to be judged or lectured, they certainly do not need informing anymore than you do :)

who's lecturing who now? I think you will find there are still very ignorant people about who know nothing about food production, as long as they dont have to think about it they'll spend their £2.
Anyway my conscience is clear, and thats all that matters. I believe it reflects upon what type of person you are if you respect animals. I too am vegetarian, doesnt bother me people eating meat - just as long as its ethically sourced, but there again most of my meat eating mates actually care about what they eat. I repeat ANIMALS ARE NOT MACHINES
And thats all i've got to say on the matter, goodbye:A

Hopefully Mr High and mighty wheretheresawill means what he says when he said goodbye.

I certainly dont want or need someone like HIM telling me what I should or should not do or buy.

It is MY business what I spend my money on and NOT his.

PS I do NOT drink alcohol (any sort) or smoke, so I spend what money I have on what I want.

This is a forum about MONEY SAVING and the OP has tried to help others, unfortunately I didn't see it until too late or I would have bought as many of these chickens as I could fit in my freezer.

just a quick question WTAW as a veggie why did you feel the need to come over to a "cheap chicken" thead?

since you " know I will never instill ethics and morals into people like you..."

resorting to personal insults is not exactly the benchmark of someone bright is it...
