Really? Where are you right now (you've got GPS) and which way is north? Next find your nearest pharmacy and get directions. When you've done it, post a screenshot to facebook and we'll compare

Have you got a spirit level handy? Can you play anything like Flight Control?

True story - a month or 2 back I was with some people and we saw one of those bar code squares on the side of a pepsi bottle (not the proper bar code - the one they just use for adverts etc.). Over a period of 2 mins, we went from wondering what it was to downloading an app, scanning it and visiting the website it was telling us about.

It's not just the tech specs, it's how it works...

Granted, I didn't realise it had an accelerometer built in. Had a look for the spirit level app and the iphones is better (probably because it's included as an example with the SDK)

No it can't play ngage games but to be frank I wouldn't want to. I had a look at the platform when it was launched and a couple of times since and haven't been that impressed.

Yes, I can send MMS very easily (since 3.0 software update a couple of weeks ago)

Not 5MP, only 3 but it's actually pretty decent these days. The video camera is excellent and comes with a good built in trimming tool and the ability to upload to YouTube easily.

No flash, never really wanted it.

GPS - Go on then, how long did it take you to find your nearest pharmacy and plot a route. I can do that in under 30 seconds from a home screen start. Takes another 30 seconds to open the facebook app and complete uploading of the map.

While we're at it, what's your qwerty keyboard like?

Still, horses for courses I guess.

ok then just wait a couple of months and get the omnia hd when prices come down, now theres a phone, my n95 8gb does everything that iphone can do and more

Nope, i can't get an omnia HD, i don't want another N95, after having one.

The beauty about my iPhone is that is perfectly syncs with my computers, over the air.

That's one thing that the N95 didn't do when i had it.
Also, i had to get EXTRA software for it to support exchange.
It was very very difficult to upgrade it's software, and nokia don't tell you when the new version is out.
I have to drag and bleeding drop music onto it, rather than just clicking a button in iTunes.

You're obviously happy with your N95, and i'll probably never go back to bug ridden software, on a phone with buttons on it.

Don't even get me started on the N97, saw it, played with it, not impressed, nowhere near as fast as the iPhone 3gS i have

gps, takes a while yes, but its technology thats 2 + years old, and with agps it speeds it up quite quickly, cant tell you how long it took to find nearest pharmacy etc as im in doors. never had a problem with it on the open road though. dont need a qwerty keyboard as its much better (for me) to txt with one hand, its all down to personal preferance and i will not be giving my money to apple, id much prefer n97 or omnia hd to be honest but each to there own

The compass is a gimmick, really.

Are you using the around me app - now that seems handy doesn't it?

For now, yes but I think it will help with the GPS apps when they come into play. At the moment it's not particularly useful to me but I grew up in a slightly more rural locale and have got a pretty decent sense of direction.

At the moment, I'm just using the google maps app. I find it to be pretty versatile at finding things when I'm lost.

BlackBerry fairly cheap these days on PAYG with either Orange or T-Mobile offering phones and BlackBerry Internet Service on PAYG. T-Mobile is probably the better deal as their FUP on Internet is 1Gb/month, Orange is 50Mb/Month!!! Also some of the models they are selling don't have WiFi.

Otherwise, how about the Nokia E63... a bit like the Nokia E71 but a bit thicker, plastic case instead of metal, and only standard 3G rather than HSDPA, but it does have WiFi and a full QWERTY keyboard. £150 on Virgin or 3... both of them do fairly generous Internet allowances.

O2 do the XDA Atom (i think?) on payg, which is a touchscreen Windows Mobile device with HSDPA and WiFi... £200 and their web bolt-on is £7.50/mo.

Finally, the N95 still has a lot of life left in it, you can get the standard versions second-hand for as little as £100, but you have to put up with just a standard phone keypad rather than touchscreen or QWERTY.

    Good luck :-)

Thanks for all your advice, I'm leaning towards the iphone . Now there lays the problems. I can get the 3g for £340 payg (inc 12 months web bolt on) or the 3gs for £440 (inc web bolt on). Most review/forum sights are split down the middle as to whether the extra £100 basically for a video capture facilty, which does interest me. So your opinions would be welcomed.

The HTC Touch HD looks impressive but I can't find this for less than £500 and this is sim free (so no free web bot on)
